Kiwi fruit by the dozen

When we dropped off our pet sheep, Solomon and Harry, at their new home, we were taken on a tour of the property before being taken down to the house for coffee and scones. It is hard to describe their place as there are sheds, a house, a cottage, all sorts of machinery and dozens of pots, trees and plants all over the place.
One thing that did intrigue me was their kiwi fruit vine which was climbing over a poultry run. As you can see, the vine had dozens of fruit on it. I had no idea how kiwi fruit grew so I’m glad I had the chance to see them ‘doing their thing’. There were a lot of citrus trees too, along with some lovely deciduous trees which have all changed colour now and are very attractive.

I never knew how kiwi grows either. It was nice of the folks to give you a tour and coffee.

@LindaOHio I hope so too. That's my only worry as there are quite a few sheep there. But maybe they'll just become more flock sheep.

@DocAndersen I remember being flabbergasted seeing my first cashews on their plants.

@JudyEv that is the same for me. Funny sometimes we eat things and don't think about how they got to us!

@Fleura Uhm...
have you thought about talking nicely to the plants instead of threatening them, Fleur? My plants grow better when I'm nice to them.

@JudyEv One of them is in a pot but I suspect it isn't really big enough. The other is struggling to really get established. I have often seen it suggested that they can be grown over a greenhouse (to provide support for the vine, and shade from too much sun in summer for the greenhouse) so I've planted mine there. They are meant to be very vigorous but so far (after about 2 years) it's only about 3 feet tall!

Kiwi doesn't grow in our area. I have some vegetable plants at my roof like okra, beans, cherry tomatoes and enjoying the yeild.

What a coincidence! I am enjoying kiwi right now as my mid morning fruit snack.
And before I saw this picture, I was under the impression that Kiwis grow on trees. I had no idea that it grows on vines. So the fruits that I am having today..kiwi and grapes.. both grow on vines

@arunima25 I'm always learning something here and enjoy hearing about the everyday lives of people in other countries - like yourself.
I'm sure I'm much more tolerant than when I first joined.

We've met them a lot of times - they came to all our concerts - but hadn't had the chance to really get to know them. It's a shame it's happening now just as we're about to leave.

Seems Solomon & Harry got a nice new home. You'd think kiwis came from trees not a vine.
