The Reality of Biden's "Tax the Wealthy" Plan

The Biden administration maintains that under the new plan, no one making $400,000 a year or less will see their taxes go up.
I am starting there because the statement is completely false. This is in reference to the latest of spending sprees proposed by the Biden administration which includes $1.8 trillion in "investments" and tax credits aimed at children and families, and a $2 trillion infrastructure deal.
Let's set aside the fact that when you look at the infrastructure deal, it's basically a package for a lot of other things with a sprinkling on of actual infrastructure. But that's for another day.
Why is the statement false? "Look," you say," I READ it loud and clear that Biden will ONLY raise the taxes on those making $400,000 a year." And that MAY be partly right. It MAY be partly possible for him to do that.
Ultimately I doubt it. But EVEN IF it were true people are missing one very important point here when it comes to taxes and how they work at the top.
Businesses and wealthy people do not PAY taxes. They essentially RECOUP them.
In other words, the taxes that these people pay is simply passed along in the form of higher prices for the goods and services they sell. It is always that way, and will always BE that way.
YOU may not send the check to the IRS, folks. But when you pay that 30 cents more for your eggs and $1 more on a loaf of bread and $1 more for a gallon of gas and 80 cents more on a gallon of milk...
That's tax you didn't get taxed that the wealthy got taxed that they charged you to shell out more of your money for for the same goods and services that were cheaper BEFORE the tax.
I will never, for the life of me, understand why people cannot wrap their head around what is a very simple concept.
Don't think so? Have you seen prices since Biden took over? Everything is higher. And the taxes haven't even been raised yet. Businesses are already raising prices in anticipation of higher taxes.

@RebeccasFarm That may have been part of the reason, but I think someone had it in for him for bigger ones. We may never actually know the whole story on that one. Too much mystery and too many unanswered questions.

I will never cease to be amazed at why the democrats time and time and again cannot look at history and understand that raising taxes never works. More tax revenues are collected overall when taxes are lower because more happens in the real economy that funnels money into the government's wallet.
Hell, even JFK knew this.

@1creekgirl Just a reference to my album. A few people were changing their names around here and I thought I would join in on the fun, but also use one that actually had an "interesting" reference. Flamingoes is purposely misspelled.

I tried to save us from Biden. Unfortunately no one paid attention or cared.
Now we have trillions of dollars being spent, potentially higher taxes, gas is $1 more than it was three months ago, we've lost independence from foreign oil, China's pissed off at us, Iran has resumed their nuclear program, North Korea has also resumed theirs, the border is in a shambles...
And it's only been THREE MONTHS!!!!

I still agree with the tax structure, even if I end up paying for it in the end. Why shouldn't those that get more pay more? Please don't lecture me.

@porwest I don't think it's punishing them. Why should **I** pay more? We can agree to disagree on this matter as well.

@LindaOHio I don't think anyone should pay the tax rates we do. And keep in mind, even for our employers, they pay half our taxes FOR us when it comes to FICA and Medicare. All of our taxes should be lower and when we make them lower, we all do much better, as history has shown. Lower taxes = better economy = higher wages and more jobs = higher tax revenue by the government even WITH reduced rates collected.

The people who create wealth in this country and everywhere else do more for the public and society than anyone really does when you think about it. They create the products we need and want. They provide the jobs we need and want. They build things and expand things and produce things that give us all things we need and want.
Why punish them for all that they provide? It makes no sense. At least not to me.
Without the rich, we have nothing.

Very much so. I always find it interesting actually the complete dismissal of common sense.
I like to use the cookie analogy. You can be sitting talking with a group of people and discussing how much the cost of cookie has gone up, and everyone will rationalize fully that flour costs have gone up, or have you seen the cost of sugar these days? They can grasp WHY the cookie costs more based on the higher cost of the ingredients.
But talk about the cost of taxes? They can't put that into the equation as a reason for a higher costing cookie. Same goes with higher wages.
All of these things are costs and all of these things will make the cost of the cookie more. A tax is as much an ingredient incorporated into the cost of making the cookie as the flour is.

@CarolDM They are too busy worrying about sticking it to the big guy all the while forgetting their lives pretty much are dictated by how much the big guy can pay and what he wants to charge.
Sticking it to the big guy is akin to shooting one's own foot. And is literally biting the hand that feeds them.

I totally agree with you. Normally taxes don't reduce they increase either direct or indirect.

And historically, when taxes are lower the government actually collects MORE taxes because more money stays out in the hands of the public at large and it creates commerce and business which generates more productivity which creates more jobs which means more payroll taxes are collected, and so it goes round and round.

It will only get worse. Granted, it is not ALL taxes contributing, but it can be a large part of it. Many people do not understand the consequence of Biden's killing the pipeline and regulations he has already created which has driven up the price of oil.
Oil is a key component in how much things costs because almost everything we buy is transported by trucks that use diesel fuel, or flown in the air using jet fuel, or delivered by rail using more diesel fuel. And it's not just transporting the finished product. It's the cost of transporting the raw materials to make the products as well. If it costs more to move things around, it will cost more when they get on the shelves.
Oh yeah, and all that packaging? The plastic wrap and plastic containers and all that stuff? It happens to be made out of oil too.
On top of that, Biden is also stifling energy. So even the cost of keeping the lights on the machines running is costing more, and that cost goes into the end price as well.
But hey, it's what we voted for. I guess we just have to deal with it now.

It shocks me when people say that the increased gas prices have nothing to do with Biden.
