Where am I? Heck, I don’t know. What am I gonna do today? Heck, I don’t know. But I DO know that I had a great birthday earlier this month, and that this is my favorite songs with “age” in the title. So here it is, straight out of Music Obscurica.
#1: Ages of You - R.E.M.
I hope you didn’t think I’d leave them out, JJ!
This gets the nod over Warren Zevon because this is a MAJOR crank it up and hope there are no cops around for the next four minutes song. One of R.E.M.’s earliest compositions, it was originally released (after two false starts) as the B-side of “Wendell Gee,” which makes it a SPLENDID 1-2 punch for a 45 A and B side.
It later was released on the B-side compilation Dead Letter Office.
It’s long been a favorite, from a band that’s been a favorite for nearly 40 years now. How’s that for aging!
Thanks for reading.
Ages of You
Written by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe
Recorded by R.E.M.
Released as a single, 1985
Also on Dead Letter Office, 1987
All along the range, la da de da da:
