An Informal Interjection: Hey!

One of my students said, "Hey!" I felt insulted when she addressed me like this. It triggers more when informing me that she is also working in my own company. For me, I don't care if she is. I think it is her benefit to learn the English language with the virtual teachers. Thus, we need to act as a teacher and student. In fact, she is a fault-finder. How do you react to people who are fault-finders? Image Credit: miro.medium.com

Ouch, can't help you there. I have some in-laws who are like that (fault finders) and I often just sigh silently.

In real life, it doesn't work for me. No one will attempt to do this, except my mom. She can only do this.

@Shavkat Not just your mom! I get to find fault in things you say and do, too. Or, maybe I just pretend to find fault. It's so hard to remember which it is...

@Shavkat Some people were born being fault finders. I have met quite a few (strangers or just acquaintances). I avoid those people.

It is so unbecoming for this person who claimed to be my colleague. I thought she is going to be a power tripper during the class. I am glad she didn't.

It is very bad on part of the student to address to the teacher that way irrespective of his/ her age or position. Student teacher relationship should be maintained.

If I am so tired of listening to their lies, I will just excuse myself away from them.

@RebeccasFarm It was like yesterday afternoon. The neighbors are gossiping and I find it not cool.

I laugh at my students if not teaching them online or after having the classes online with them only.

I agree. It is possible to do this. However, some taboo topics need to be avoided. In fact, they are not.

@DocAndersen For me, it is not hard because the company imposed these taboo topics on us.

It is hard to work with fault finders but it is about culture. People here they call you by your last name as a respect.

Everyone can find fault if they wanted to but it is best to keep those findings to oneself.

I agree. Sometimes some people need to call their attention when they are out of control or abusive. The ugly truth needs to be said to make them realize something.

I react depends on who they are. I am not sure about the rules in online nor offline teaching because I am not a teacher but maybe I would tell the student to better find another teacher/school. If my relatives, I just avoid being with them offline and block them online. Or sometimes I just pretend to be a deaf and blind. If boss or co-workers.... I just resign. If buyers of goods I offer... I say...no problem, you can return the item.

For me, I still have the principle in mind: 'The more you hate me, the more hate you.' Since I haven't find another job online, I will conceal my feelings towards people who are working here.

Yes it becomes difficult. We can make them understand what they are doing isn't right. That's it. Take care

That's a good question. Usually, they do this right after the class. We can see the comments in our profile.

once one appreciates humans are prone to faults then the reaction would be less likely....

Indeed. It is fine as long as that person will be a better one.
