This evening, a bright student shared this quote with me. Let me share her explanation about it. This quote means that whatever we do, our ancestors will be proud of us. Of course, bad things are not counted according to her. What do you think about this quote? Is there any deeper meaning when you read it? Image Credit: deepermeaningtime.files.wordpress.com

It means "be creative", use your brain and don't be a sheep.

Sometimes, I like being one of the sheeple. If it means I don't have to think so much for a little while, it could be good. Of course, I'd only do that until something about the situation bothered me and then my brain kicks back in and I start thinking for myself and leave the flock again.

@DaddyEvil I never liked to be one of the sheeple. I have to say that I like to be different and to have my personal opinion about things.

@LadyDuck I usually just worry about it when I want to give my opinion about something. Otherwise it seems safer to hide in the flock and just think what I want when I want. People leave you alone and think you aren't smart enough to have your own opinions that way.

It is also my first time to hear. It is a Chinese proverb and translated into English.

It's the fourth commandment. 'Honor thy father and thy mother.' This commandment is the only commandment with a promise - longevity. That is why we also honor our grandparents and great grandparents. The blessings go down to posterity. The children will reap blessings in the future. By way of reciprocity, the offspring must always thank and pray for the ancestors.

I do think that even the people connected to a person closely can feel proud of them. Ancestors can be reminded and be respected, too.

Dear friend, I cannot agree with this quote. It is obvious that if the bad things are not taken into account, then only the good things will be taken into account and of course, not only our ancestors, but anyone else would be proud of the good things we did. If the question was true, we might think that if a pedophile, a serial killer, ever graduated from X, his ancestors would be proud of him, ignoring the terrible things he did. I have given an extreme example, to better illustrate what I think about it.

That's a good point. It is what I also think about while having a conversation with this student. Since she is not that old enough to express herself about it. I just let it go to explain further to her. In time, she will go deeper and not exclude the bad things that a person can do.

@profree2019 Indeed. Her life experience is not that wide enough to comprehend such a phrase.

@Shavkat It's okay what you did. If she is a young person, she is in a stage where her life experience has not allowed her to see so many things, such as those that she will be able to see over time and thus learn more about things and have a change in behavior. gradual, based on her moral principles.
