The enigmatic figure, who was the Lord Mayor of the city, had been accused of molesting women. He would never admit to it, but many women had come forwards, and described, in detailed allegations against him, what he was supposed to have done to them. John Growton, then was forced to step down from his job. His wife, of twenty years, left him also. He was in a sorry state, and he jumped off of a tall city building, and that was the sorry end of him. Was he remembered for the good, or for the bad? For the bad, of course, and all the good that he did was discoloured by this bad. Years, later, the woman who had made the fiercest, and most damagingly revealing of all of the allegations, and accusations against him, said that she had fabricated most of them. All that he had done, was to put his arm around her shoulder, when he had seen her crying at her desk one day, and tell her, to tell him all about it. She had done so, (told him about what had happened to her own daughter at school, molested by the headmaster) and she did feel better, after that, but given the situation, and current environment, she had escalated her claims, so that this man would be excoriated, and lose his lofty position. She joined in the campaign against him the loudest. The poor man had actually helped her, by listening to her, and providing her with a counsellor, as well, but that was soon forgotten, when she was caught up in the campaign to get rid of this man, and to stain his reputation, as they did so, just a few short years after this event of hers, with him, had happened. "All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them." Galileo Galilei, the renowned, and esteemed, Italian Scientist, (1564 to 1642) once said this, and it is still very true today. abusing women through the use of power, if true is a horrible crime. but forcing someone to give up their life, for false accusations doesn't sit well either.

@innertalks sometimes when there is smoke there is fire. Women deserve the right to say someone did something to me...

@DocAndersen Yes, I think that we all have that right, to speak up, and to be heard. Women have been stymied away from voicing that right, and so they do need to be encouraged to speak up with the truth.

@innertalks yes in the person you created taking their life, effectively they end any hope of getting to the absolute truth. did they or didn't they. we now can never know.

That's a very sad story indeed. I guess it happens quite often.

Yes, sadly, l think it does. People do not like other people in power sometimes. That's the tall poppy syndrome, as we call it here.

It is a shame that a mayor took his own life based on lies by his accusers.

Yes, it is a shame, when bad things happen to good people.
