Turkeys by the hospital

I remember one time my dad was in the hospital where we live and I went to visit him. As I was nearing the hospital I noticed a lot of turkeys roaming around. As I got closer to them I also noticed many of them sitting on two of the trees there. Just hanging out. I found that odd. I did not know that turkeys like to sit on trees. I wonder why they congregate by that hospital.

Maybe they've learned they can get food there?

@JimBo452020 I don't doubt it. I know a lot of the birds and ducks around here, will roam the streets because they're not really afraid of people.

Were they turkeys or turkey buzzards? Maybe they had a turkey friend that was in the ER. :-)

That sure must have been a strange sight and I agree the last place I would expect a turkey to be would be in a tree,

Or by the hospital.

Turkeys feed on the ground but roost in trees. I see turkeys in the trees all the time here where I live. Not sure why they would have gathered near the hospital, other than maybe there was a good food source for them.

Just learned a new word: roost.

Interesting though that they sit on those trees during the day and not at night.

@lovebuglena I’ve seen them in the trees both day and night.

That seems a bit strange. I should think most turkeys roost in trees at night.

Maybe wild turkeys roost any time of day.
