It's not worth losing my life over...

Before I became a virtual teacher, I used to work in a local government agency here. However, the nature of the job is to help the community to do their own projects. The bottom line is that I was always in the field. The downside was riding on the top load. It sounds fun but I was always at the side and ready to jump if the jeepney or the bus will flip to the ravine. After 8 months and finished all the community projects, I finally decided to resign because it is not worth losing my life over this situation. Are you a risk-taker? Have you ever tried to take the risk when traveling? Image Credit: lh3.googleusercontent.com

The vehicle looks a vintage minibus. It is too risky to travel that way from top of the roof. Good that you resigned your job. I remember once traveling in railway for some distance on door holding vertical bar as the bogey was jam packed and it took me considerable time to find place inside. It was risky.

It is not a bus type, my friend. It is the local transportation called jeepney here. It is not a good place for me to continue my career. In fact, I wanted to work in the office instead. However, they did not allow me, so I resigned after finishing all the community projects there.

@prashu228 I am sure some people are into this. At that time, I don't have a choice.

At that time, I wanted to take the risk. However, it did not last for long.

At first, I thought I cannot do it. With my colleagues beside me, I was able to carry out my job here. But then, I need to be so careful and always safe when riding on the top load.

Besides the point, the place is also considered a dangerous one. Randomly, the tribes have tribal war.

I guess it is ok to quit on a job that you feel endangered doing so. I would also think twice about doing such things even though the job seems quite fulfilling being able to reach out to some underprivileged people to help them out.

@Shavkat Well what do you expect working for the government? With limited budgets, you have to contend with what they can offer you. You really need a genuine commitment to serve the people it serves.

@rsa101 That's why I prefer to work with NGOs after this pandemic.

That's the downside of working with the local government. Despite knowing the fact that it is considered a dangerous job, they don't allow us to have hazard pay.

I'm a risk taker but not in that kind of situation, it was a good project and a good experience as well, but the transportation is not safe and it's quite dangerous.

In the long run, I enjoyed working with my former colleagues. Hiking is the best part when working with the local tribes though.

It is not permitted. However, this place is too far from the main city. I am sure that they are still doing it at present.

You're just no fun at all! It's illegal here for anyone to be on the outside of a vehicle. (When I was a kid we often rode around in the back of our dad's pickup truck. If people tried that now, the driver would be arrested for endangering someone's life and could go to jail for a very long time! We also tied sleds to the back of vehicles when there was snow or ice on the roads and rode around on them. You can't legally do that anymore, either.)

I tried that once or twice. It is fun yes, but not for long. It is hard to sit down on top where you only have railings there. lol I just did that for experience. But I am not sure I will do that if on the mountain side
