Update on the Baby Rabbits

Many have asked if the baby rabbits in the yard are wild. Yes they are. I have had to watch from a distance. Makes it hard, but nature has to take its course.
Walked out to check on the babies yesterday. The nest was empty! I panicked. I had not reviewed the camera footage to see what happened the night before.
The trail camera I have has been a lifesaver. I would not know what was going on without it for sure. Quickly went inside and let my husband review first. I did not want to see a predator grabbing the babies.
Good news. Honey Bunny was there and seems like she lured them out of the nest. They can be seen hopping towards her. So cool! And there were five babies. All left the nest safely.
In the top photo, you see the empty nest in the ground. My heart skipped a beat.
The bottom photo, if you look closely you can see the Momma (Honey Bunny) with a baby beside her.
Also, I saw them in the yard later. They all seem to be fine. What a relief. And they are 13 days old today. Usually the are weaned from Momma at three weeks.

Sounds like mama was tired and wanted to get them going sooner. I'm so glad that was the case and nothing bad happened to them!

@CarolDM Could be possible, or it could be down to the weather. Mama knows best, though.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, I thought about them being so hot in the sun with no protection.

So maybe they'll be spending their nights in the nest? I can't see the baby next to the mom unless it's in the right side. If so I thought that was a tail of the momma.

@MarshaMusselman I don't think they are staying in the nest. No signs.

My heart would have skipped a beat fearing about the predators. Glad that they are safe. So they have been weaned earlier than expected. So what next? Do they leave and move out??

They are getting strong enough to travel a little now. Soon they will be off on their own.

I hope they stay around after they are grown up. If they do; you can watch them more after they are grown.
