Update on the Baby Rabbits

Many have asked if the baby rabbits in the yard are wild. Yes they are. I have had to watch from a distance. Makes it hard, but nature has to take its course. Walked out to check on the babies yesterday. The nest was empty! I panicked. I had not reviewed the camera footage to see what happened the night before. The trail camera I have has been a lifesaver. I would not know what was going on without it for sure. Quickly went inside and let my husband review first. I did not want to see a predator grabbing the babies. Good news. Honey Bunny was there and seems like she lured them out of the nest. They can be seen hopping towards her. So cool! And there were five babies. All left the nest safely. In the top photo, you see the empty nest in the ground. My heart skipped a beat. The bottom photo, if you look closely you can see the Momma (Honey Bunny) with a baby beside her. Also, I saw them in the yard later. They all seem to be fine. What a relief. And they are 13 days old today. Usually the are weaned from Momma at three weeks.

Sounds like mama was tired and wanted to get them going sooner. I'm so glad that was the case and nothing bad happened to them!

I am not sure, maybe she felt danger. So far they seem ok.

@CarolDM Could be possible, or it could be down to the weather. Mama knows best, though.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, I thought about them being so hot in the sun with no protection.

So maybe they'll be spending their nights in the nest? I can't see the baby next to the mom unless it's in the right side. If so I thought that was a tail of the momma.

@MarshaMusselman I don't think they are staying in the nest. No signs.

Not that I can tell. They are staying with Honey Bunny it seems, hiding. The baby is to the right in the corner.

I'm glad they're all safe and sound. Hopefully it'll stay that way. How many litters has Momma had so far?

great update, love the picture!!!! if there was ever a product that said "Carol, i was made for you." it is this one! (link above is safe I promise)! A bird feeder with an integrated microphone and camera. You can see the bird eating the food on your iPhone! plus based on song it identifies the bird!
Notifies you of bird visitors, captures their photos and organizes them in a beautiful collection. | Check out 'Bird Buddy: A Smart Bird Feeder' on Indiegogo.

Oh my gosh, this is such a cool feeder. The problem would be I would get nothing else done. But how awesome to get these alerts. Wow! Thanks for the link. And a bird ID is a huge plus.

My heart would have skipped a beat fearing about the predators. Glad that they are safe. So they have been weaned earlier than expected. So what next? Do they leave and move out??

I have no idea. This is my first experience. They are still dependent on their mom for milk. They left the nest.
