Our Enemy is Us only

One of the wisdom filled mystic and poet was Kabir Das who lived in the 15th century in India. He had written many couplets and one of them replays within me. It roughly translates as; I went around looking for evil but when I searched within me I found the real culprit. Likewise, I look around at other species and I do find violence at times, but the one species that takes the cake should be us for mindless, premeditated, skulduggery. Our fellow travelers react only for basic survival but we do for collateral issues too that include ego, envy, greed, or even hatred, dislike, resentment et al. Our traits have become ingrained in us and passed on from one generation to another with a take we are after all human. That it becomes accepted as a norm will prove our downfall. We are reaching a stage where any flare-up can lead to not only our own self-annihilation but could also bring down the whole edifice making our living planet uninhabitable. We have survived brinkmanship because one party involved has balked. But it can well spin out of control with a “to hell with it” attitude by one supreme leader who can lead us all to our doom. Do you think this process can be stopped? And how will it pan out in the end? Image: War and Survival from free media site Pexels

We can often be our own worst enemy.

We are blessed that there are no predators for us unlike for other species. But then we turn on ourselves and others too for any reason or even for no reason.

We know ourselves best, that's why only we can defeat ourselves.

Hopefully, none else will confront us but then we can then unite too to resist them!

I remember this one: "Judge not another but judge within and there you will find enough of sin" I have also learnt and that is we should not depend on others for our happiness as we are the best creators of it.

@Shiva49 You dished out quite a few relevant sayings I notice I have always realised if I admit my mistake instantly I get a lot of peace.

“He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone" is hardly practiced by most. I remember always "when you point a finger, there are three fingers pointing back at you". The basics are given lip service in our real life here and that results in pulling each other down. Yes, happiness is transient through material possessions as I have found assets become liabilities when it becomes a mindless pursuit.

@allknowing Thanks, I found when we are as straightforward as we possibly can, frank, then the lightest is the baggage we carry. And when we tell the truth, we don't have to remember what we had told. I forgive easily but forgetting does not come easy. Admitting our mistakes elevates us in the eyes of others. It is not a weakness but denotes strength of our character.

We cannot stop evil, plain and simple! Only a powerful, wise, just and loving God can do that. That is what the Bible is all about. It explains how evil came to be, why it has been allowed to temporarily exist and how it will end forever. I have looked, searched, listened, discussed and have found no better answer, explanation and no better solution than that. I totally agree with Yahweh / Jehovah, the God of the Bible and whom I have come to believe is the only true God. Yes, one can disagree with me. All I'm saying is, I have not found any other truth.

Till God intervenes, we can do our best to shine our light and press on for justice. Now it is a few who dictate and even usurp our agenda with the result we are forever putting out the fire to survive.

@Shiva49 Yes, till God acts, we who love God must continue to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. That is the godly and human thing to do. I am convinced that we are the happiest when we love!

Yes Kabir Das has written lots of couplets (dohas) and they are liked by everyone. Hope we all can kill ego, envy, hatred, dislike etc within us so that this world becomes a better place to live in.

Yes, they are timeless like a few others are. They highlight our inadequacies, wrong priorities, that perpetuate our misery. Though we know our pitfalls, we still play with fire, now nuclear bombs, with a take we can't change!

To recognize that is the way to start becoming friends with you! As I am into the evening of my life, I am more aware to become a better person by eschewing all negativeness. I am more grateful now even for little things in life as everything is a blessing including each breath I take here.

@Shiva49 Indeed they do and part of that to me is that they have help from the innocent others who do not realize their ill intentions. Blind.

Kabir Das said, "God is the breath inside the breath." I think God, is the love inside the love too, so when we love, we find God. We think that we are just our minds, and our brains these days, and so we neglect our hearts. Only a return, to our hearts, and valuing its input in our lives, and so embracing love again within us, and without of us, too, (as in our love for ourselves, and our fellow man, and God too), can save us. Our mind can never save us on its own. Greed is inbuilt into it, and only love can overcome such greedy intentions.

Greed is out to enslave us but soon we find all that glitters is not gold. People look at the money more than at a rich person as another like them. We have now knowledge at our finger tips but little wisdom. However, there is a realization in our young to step out of comfort zones created by money and help those in need and love. I have found this pandemic has separated the real heroes from those who pay lip service. It has opened up a huge space to show our mettle. Loving without borders can make us experience heaven while still alive here. Our creator can think aloud then "what the hell, they are already in heaven. Let me get some respite from the pretenders. People have grown up now, My job is truly done, let me do something else."

@innertalks Yeah, they are vulnerable, maybe, due to peer pressure. Parents should set a good example too than just preach to them

Rightly said. That's the common thinking nowadays which is wrong. I feel people should be more kind and compassionate towards others. If everyone practice that then world will become a happy place

That gives us something to think about. We all have these inner voices running us down and telling us we can't do it.

As the species at the top of the pecking order, we are expected to do what is right than expect our creator to clear the mess we have willfully accumulated. I am sure we will be held accountable and to repay with compound interest for our sins and it is just fair dinkum in terms of reaping what we have sowed.
