Pride Month is celebrated every June 2021--PART 1
HISTORY--June 28 1969 Stonewall Bar Pride Month is set aside to celebrate LGBTQ+ people, their daily contributions to our world, and to pay respects to the struggles that have yet to be overcome. Pride is all about honor and celebration. Pride events are geared toward anyone who feels like their sexual identity falls outside the mainstream -- although many straight people join in, too.
LGBT is an acronym meaning lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. The term sometimes is extended to LGBTQ, or even LGBTQIA, to include queer, intersex and asexual groups.
Queer is an umbrella term for non-straight people; intersex refers to those whose sex is not clearly defined because of genetic, hormonal or biological differences; and asexual describes those who don't experience sexual attraction.
These terms may also include gender fluid people, or those whose gender identity shifts over time or depending on the situation.
Brenda Howard, a bisexual New York activist nicknamed the "Mother of Pride," organized the first Pride parade to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. She believed Gay Pride was needed:
1. Because Unity Is Strength
2. Because It's Important To Show You Are Proud To Be You
3. Because It's Important To Make Yourself Heard
4. Because We Are Done Hiding
5. Because Support Is Everything
6. Celebration And Unity
7.Pride Brings Comfort and Safety
8.Pride Raises Awareness
9. LGBTQ Awareness, Bullying and Taking a Stand
10. Pride shows LGBTQ youth that there is a community for them

"Gender binary is the classification of gender into two distinct, opposite forms of masculine and feminine, whether by social system or cultural belief."
It took me awhile to get used to all the new terms--still stumble over a lot especially with 'they', 'them', etc

@GreatMartin so I could be masculine? Just because I'm strong doesn't make me masculine for example! Iwould be a strong woman!

@GreatMartin I remember very well when the nurses did not want to approach people with AIDS because they feared to get contaminated. We still know nothing about Covid, but they want to make us believe that a vaccine rushed out in a few months works... we still have no vaccine against the AIDS.

It reminds me of when AIDS first started making the news and everyone thought you could get it just by being near someone with it---like COVID things
eventually turn around.

But we had to march, parade to show our pride--without getting bashed, killed, thrown in jail, etc.

@GreatMartin

Back then was such a different time . . . people were not as open (well, even in this day and age we still see closemindedness). I am glad you could be you at such a young age as everyone should be, but I imagine there were many obstacles along the way.

@much2say Still are--some people think that allowing gays to marry solved everything--it only solved that issue.

Happy Pride Month! For some reason, I could say many things but suddenly it just popped into my head May the force be with you meaning all the best to everyone with good wishes this month, And I totally agree with what you said below so I guess that is why that came into my head now that once and for all it is equality for one and for everyone and no discrimination ever,

No need to have a special day for awareness. It is shoved down my throat every day of the week. Not saying I am totally against the culture. But geez Louise can't they just shut up about it? They're gay. I get it. Love each other. But must I constantly be REMINDED of their being gay?
