Along with Abba I’m counting down ten favorites by the great Neil Young. He isn’t as pretty as Björn Ulvaeus (the blond guy in Abba) was back in the 70s, but let’s face it, Abba never wrote a thing to compare lyrically with Young at his best. But this isn’t a comparison, because in the music world, there’s room for both of them. (And on my iPod, which explains why my iPod is the 160-gig model.
) Here’s today’s Neil Young tune.
#6: Helpless
There is a town in north Ontario
I was hooked.
I’ve mentioned before about Young’s less-than-stellar voice, but there is nobody I’d rather hear warble the opening line to this incredible song.
JJ says that the Jerry Reed song “Amos Moses” ends before he’s ready for it to end. That’s how I feel about this song.
Helpless
(With Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young)
Written by Neil Young
From Déjà Vu, 1970

Have you been to Ontario? I have to agree the opening line with that unique voice grabs your attention right away and sets up a terrific tune!

Not familiar with most of Neil Young's music. He wasn't on my radar in 1970.
