Rhyming slang is fun but weird

JimBo was talking about rhyming slang. I was confused so looked it up online. Rhyming slang is where a common word is replaced with a phrase of two or more words. The last word is supposed to rhyme with the original word. Also, the secondary rhyming word has to be omitted. Not sure why that is. I think I get it, however I do not understand how they came up with the phrases for common words. Like how in the heck does raspberry tart mean fart; pork pies mean lies; plates of meat mean feet; syrup of figs mean wig. etc...? It is interesting though. Found this image of an ATM machine. On the screen it said, "Please enter your Huckleberry Finn then press ENTER to continue." Huckleberry Fin is supposed to mean PIN. I guess rhyming slang is a sort of code where unless you know the rhyming phrases you will be confused as to what the heck a person is talking about.

I don't have enough brain cells left in my head to try and comprehend rhyming slang. I'll just sit on the sidelines for this one and watch everyone else try to figure it out.

I wonder if it can be any word that rhymes. Like for example, could I respond with teat instead of meat to plates of meat? Could I respond with cries instead of lies to pork pies? Could I respond to raspberry tart with cart?

@porwest I don't know if I'd call it a game. Maybe a fun way of telling someone something without others knowing what you mean.

@JimBo452020 Lol. This is supposed to easy super easy but it ain't. When you said "You are slim" the only thing that came to mind was Jim. I guess I am a rhyming slang dummy.

So you are in rhyming slang Slim Shady So do you get it now. Remember, rhyming slang in conversation does not have to actually include the bit that rhymes lol

Turns out it is not an American thing. Maybe that's why it's confusing to Americans.
