Pho and curry for dinner

@spiderdust I know those curry cubes - very convenient! Do you go to Japantown there?

@much2say I do occasionally, although there's a Mitsuwa Marketplace not far from me, so I often get the cubes from there. The grocery store where I work sells them too, but their selection is a lot more limited. I have friends who live in the Japantown neighborhood too!

Katsu curry is one of my favorites. Fortunately I can find it all over the place around here, but I even have a package of curry cubes in case I feel like making my own.

I highly recommend it! For a newbie, I recommend getting it with steak and brisket, or just the steak. Some people like it with meatballs, but I've found the texture of the meatballs can vary a lot. If you really want to be adventurous, you can get it with tendon and tripe... although I have not yet gotten that adventurous.

@VivaLaDani13 Do you ever see pho in Perth? I never heard of it before moving to California 20 years ago, and it's awesome.

What kind of curry do you like making? Shrimp goes well with either a Thai yellow curry or green curry.

@Dena91 Yellow curry is one of my all-time favorites! It goes so well with seafood and potatoes.

I am now quite full. Some of the kids have leftover soup for lunch tomorrow.

Yeah, I haven't been able to break them of the pickiness, although their palates have expanded a little.

Yes, the picture above is pho. It's a Vietnamese beef noodle soup that you can customize for each person, adding condiments according to each person's tastes. I like to add fresh bean sprouts, a squeeze of lime, fresh basil leaves, and a good sprinkling of black pepper to mine. My little kids just like to add lime juice and sometimes basil to theirs, although one of them will eat the bean sprouts. Some people also add sliced jalapenos or hot sauce or hoisin sauce to their bowls too.

It just arrived! Yum!
