If you keep something long enough, it will come round again!

I have so many things that I inherited from my mother, that she inherited from her mother and never threw away. And because they have sentimental value and they have been kept for such a long time already, I find them hard to throw away too so they are still here!
One of these is this leather bag. It originally belonged to my mother’s mother. It is the kind of thing she might have received as a gift I think - it has her initials embossed on the other side. It’s in pretty good condition but it hasn’t been used for the last 50-odd years; it was old-fashioned even when I was a child.
Now it has reappeared from the back of a cupboard and my girls were playing with it. Then the other day I needed a bag to go to the shops (I wanted something big enough to hold a book, as I like to have something on hand to read if I have to wait anywhere!) and I didn’t have one handy.
So as a last resort I grabbed this, popped in my book and off I went. And do you know what? Not one single person gave me a funny look or sneered at my old-fashioned bag. I felt quite comfortable using it, it has a certain vintage charm.
For a long time (decades even) taking a bag to the shops was derided as something only old ladies did. It was definitely uncool and the thing to do was just to pick up a couple of plastic bags from the shops when you bought something.
But now the pendulum has swung the other way and bags are ‘in’ again, and vintage is also ‘fashionable’ again too. I think I will use it more. Unless I find someone with the same initials as my grandmother who might like it!
PS: Can you tell I am definitely not a devotee of Marie Condo?

You are right. I am not a hoarder, but I do not like to throw things that are still good and pretty. Just like you I have my old shopping bags and I am glad I did not throw them. Even shoes and clothing come back in fashion after years.
I am not at all a fan of Marie Condo either. I like a neat house, but a house must be an enjoyable living place, it's not a showroom.

Indeed. Many people have undoubtedly bought too much 'stuff' and contributed to the overconsumption that has caused so many problems. But the answer is not to throw all that stuff away and just add to the moutain of waste! Use up the things you have instead!
And I agree, some houses look as though no-one lives there, they are so empty.

The leather bag is a real antique ! It reminds you of your mother and your grandmother at the sight of it.

@Fleura You can make a rough estimate of when the leather bag was made, because it has your grandmother's initials embossed on it.Luckily the bag is handed down from generation to generation and in good condition !

That's classic! I think vintage stuff are pretty cool, to be honest. In fact it's almost like a trend for many people to own them.
