If you keep something long enough, it will come round again!

I have so many things that I inherited from my mother, that she inherited from her mother and never threw away. And because they have sentimental value and they have been kept for such a long time already, I find them hard to throw away too so they are still here! One of these is this leather bag. It originally belonged to my mother’s mother. It is the kind of thing she might have received as a gift I think - it has her initials embossed on the other side. It’s in pretty good condition but it hasn’t been used for the last 50-odd years; it was old-fashioned even when I was a child. Now it has reappeared from the back of a cupboard and my girls were playing with it. Then the other day I needed a bag to go to the shops (I wanted something big enough to hold a book, as I like to have something on hand to read if I have to wait anywhere!) and I didn’t have one handy. So as a last resort I grabbed this, popped in my book and off I went. And do you know what? Not one single person gave me a funny look or sneered at my old-fashioned bag. I felt quite comfortable using it, it has a certain vintage charm. For a long time (decades even) taking a bag to the shops was derided as something only old ladies did. It was definitely uncool and the thing to do was just to pick up a couple of plastic bags from the shops when you bought something. But now the pendulum has swung the other way and bags are ‘in’ again, and vintage is also ‘fashionable’ again too. I think I will use it more. Unless I find someone with the same initials as my grandmother who might like it! PS: Can you tell I am definitely not a devotee of Marie Condo?
