Beef tongue for dinner

I love boiled tongue (beef or veal). Usually I eat it as is but sometimes I fry in the skillet. For tonight's dinner I will be having boiled beef tongue topped with a little bit of mustard, sauteed zucchini and onions, and a pickle with sour cream on the side. I had that last night and it was really good. I boiled the beef tongue with sea salt, some white onion, bay leaves, and rainbow peppercorns. I usually add carrots and celery as well but I did not have that on hand. Then I will have some corn on the cob. I totally forgot that I had it. It's been in the fridge since Sunday. I am very hungry. Can't wait to dive in.

@lovebuglena Mom would boil beef(or pork)tongue. Then, slice it in a vinegar marinade with sliced onion. It's similar to the vinegar marinade used in cucumber salad. It was delicious and very tender!

@lovebuglena Nope, pickled tongue isn't sold in the stores. It's a homemade treat.

@prinzcy I just warmed it up and ate it with the sauteed zucchini and a pickle on the side. I still had leftover tongue after that so today for breakfast I fried it up with some onion and made a salad with that. To the tongue and onion I added a mini cucumber, an apple, a hardboiled egg, and mayo. It was really good.

There are parts of an animal I can't bring myself to eat. That happens to be one of them. Enjoy all the same.

@lovebuglena Agreed. My mom tricked me into eating liver, once. While it tasted good... I still won't knowingly eat it to this day. I just don't feel right eating another animal's liver.

@kaylachan I love liver! Maybe because I've been eating it since I was little.

That's not for everyone. Same with the liver or other giblets.

I love it too, both beef and veal. I usually prepare a sauce made with chopped onion, parsley and capers that goes very well with the boiled tongue.

Enjoy your beef tongue recipe. It's cholesterol free.

I am not sure if it's cholesterol free. There is fat on it.

If it is not overdone it is really good. It would even be great in a sandwich.
