I poisoned myself yesterday

Not intentinally, of course, but I did, so I've been taking it easy today. What happened is that I pulled some potatoes from my garden for my dinner. One had green spot from being too near the surface. I cut off that spot before I cooked them, but obviously overlooked a spot on another one because one of the potatoes tasted "funny". Anyway, I awoke in the middle of the night with severe abdominal pain. I spent what felt like an hour in the washroom waiting to either vomit or poop. I eventually did and some of the pain abated and I was able to go back to sleep. I still have some discomfort at 4pm but I'll survive. I'm going back to bed.

Oh dear poor you. Who would have thought the humble potato can have such an effect but unfortunately they do! Hopefully you will feel a whole lot better later!

Yes, and if you've ever seen them growing in the field and noticed little green "tomatoes" growing off the leafy parts... those are deadly.

That's so bad, wish you to get well soon. I didn't know potatoes that grow near the surface could be so evil. I love potatoes.

Potatoes and tomatoes are related to the belladonna plant.

Sorry you went through all that . My dad always told us never to eat green potatoes. I didn't know why - but I just threw out any green potatoes I saw. I never had any solid info about that until I researched it online. You're the first person I know who actually got sick off of them.

I hate when that happens. At least you're okay, and it wasn't to severe.

I've always heard that green on a potato is poison. So as you did, I cut away the green spots and cook only the white part or the peelings. I'm sorry you were sick, hopefully today you'll feel a lot better

@BarBaraPrz Yes, and I usually cut a little more off, just to be safe.

Oh wow, that's rough. I hope you're feeling better today. I do my best to check all of our produce very carefully for anything that doesn't look, feel or smell right. I'm so glad you're going to survive.

@BarBaraPrz It happens that I am tempted to eat things that I know I should not and I spend the night in the washroom... like a kid!

I don't think covid had anything to do with it, but I'll be sure to not use green potatoes ever again.

And you lived to tell the tale! I did not know potatoes too near the surface can cause such harm. Hope you are back to normal now.
