An email from Skillshare

I use a site called Skillshare. They have different kinds of online courses. I joined the site because it wasn't possible to attend lectures in person. I decided to take some online courses instead. I still prefer to attend lectures at university, but at the moment online courses are okay. Some of their courses about creative writing are pretty interesting, and I also finished other short courses. Sometimes I receive emails about "recommended courses" (based on the other online courses I have chosen) I received one of those emails today. I thought I would find links to courses about writing, psychology, nursing or art, but they had chosen something different for me. The headline said: "You will love this course" I couldn't wait to see which interesting course they had chosen for me. I opened the email...and found a Danish course for beginners. Perfect choice. I would love to learn my mother tongue

Sometimes I get a certificate, but not every time. I think it depends on the person who made the course. Some people give us cerficates when we complete their course and others don't.

@Dyvette16 No, not yet. The lastest certificate I received was from a world literature course. It is not work-related, it is just something I am interested in because I like to write in my free time

The only purpose of such a course would be to teach you how to teach Danish to foreigners. I guess the course was suggested based on location and many in Denmark are foreigners who need to learn the language, just like Swedish is the most chosen language in Sweden, according to the Wicked Owl. Anyway, Skillshare comes with a subscription, right?

Yes, I think it is based on my location. Skillshare is in English, so it is possible that some of the members from my country are immigrants who don't speak Danish yet. Our language is not easy to learn and some of the sounds are hard to pronounce if you weren't born in Scandinavia. Our grammar is tricky too especially the genders. There are no real rules, so you have to memorize them Yes, in most cases you need a Skillshare subscription. There are a few free courses, but there are very few courses to choose from if you don't have a subscription. But least the subscription is a fixed amount per month. If I had to pay for each course I probably wouldn't use the site.

@sabtraversa Yes, I am happy that I don't have to learn my own language as a foreigner

@Porcospino Oh no, one of those multi-gendered languages full of exceptions like German. If I had to pay for a subscription I would make sure to get the best out of it, therefore I'd need to spend at least 8 hours a day there.

I already speak Danish, but I am going to have a look anyway. I don't need the course myself, but I might recommend it to some of my friends who are immigrants.

I read about that once. Are the courses for free?

Some of the courses are free, but you need a subscription to watch the rest of them. I like the site a lot. It is possible to learn many different things.

Haha - well, they got that one wrong, didn't they? Maybe I should look for an online course. It sounds fun.

Yes, I don't need to learn my own language I used to attend lectures at the local university, but it hasn't been possible last year or this year, so I decided to join some online courses instead. That way I am still able to learn something new

@Porcospino That's a really good idea - and would fill in the time too when you can't leave the house.

Skillshare is an awesome website. I'm still waiting for a perfect time to get started with all those courses I signed up for. There are free sections there like graphics art, anything and everything is there. Danish course seems interesting. I hope you enjoy it.
