When Was The Last Time?

Over the years, I manage to collect a lot of dishes. A lot of them were gifts. People started to notice lol and it made it really easy for them to shop for Christmas presents.
With all of those dishes accumulating, I had no reason not to host family dinners. And what I didn't have enough of lol... went on my shopping list. I loved to haunt Good Will in search for interesting pieces and that lead to inviting the whole family to dinner. I even had a place setting or 12 in a nondescript shade of beige so that I could mix and match with the other colors that I had for particular holidays. I had pale green for summer dinners and pumpkin orange for fall. I was ready for any new additions to the family lol. As you can guess, it's been quite a while since i brought out any of those settings. But, I was just thinking, why wasn't I bringing them out just for my own family. Why was I storing them just for special occasions?
So that is today's question... how often do you get out your fancy dishes for no particular reason? I'm actually thinking of getting out my green dishes and spending a little time thinking about what flowers I could pick for the garden to decorate the table. So, when was the last time you fancied up your dinner table for no reason? :)

My husband often demands for that. So, whenever we make some special dish, especially on weekends, we take them out. We had frequent get together before pandemic and they got used. But now we take them out once or twice a week to relish our special dishes

Makes sense... I'm going to make an effort to do it more often too. :)

I have a whole bunch of milk glass dishes, serving dishes etc. Mostly Fire King Paneled Grape. I never use them. I do not do the hosting. I have some white hobnail dishes as well. Oh, and some white milk glass glasses with gold leaf game birds on them.

Sounds like you have quite the collection!! But, if they aren't getting used... Not sure anyone in the family would like to inherit them lol!

I don’t have any fancy dishes. That’s the truth. I guess that’s one of the “joys” of being single.
My parents never had anything fancy, either.

It became more of a game for us... Suddenly all my siblings were living near enough and the dinners together just grew. :)

I'm either going to start using them or start emptying shelves so that they can be donated. Haven't decided quite yet which way to go.

I'm toying with the idea of having another get together now that everyone has had their second shot. Hmmm, all those dishes might come in handy. Now if it would just stop raining!

I guess it was quite some time ago I thought I should be using and enjoying my really lovely items or I might die before they ever got an airing or before I ever enjoyed them. If they get broken, well, at least I had the pleasure of using them for a while.

I haven't had my good dishes out for years. We no longer have any close family left; so we don't have anyone over for dinner; and we don't get fancy for our meals.
