It seems to be working well

I made a spray based on online recipes that is supposed to repel insects. I wash tables and kitchen counters with it because I have a lot of ants this year. When I got ready to mow I sprayed it all over me. My hair, and neck, my arms and legs. It seems to be effective at keep all kinds of pests away. I had often heard of using the original amber mouthwash antiseptic to repel flies. I added a number of repellant essential oils for a total of 100 drops per 8 oz. of mouthwash. The mouthwash is effective both as a germ killer and a repellent because one of the active ingredients is oil of oregano. With it I have used lemon grass, cinnamon, tea tree oil and spearmint. It certainly smells pleasant. It feels cooling when I spray it on myself. Other good things that could be added are lavender oill, eucalyptus, and clove oil.

Why you little chemist you. A product that repels bugs and smells good is hard to find. Nice job Heather. Be careful not to smell TOO good, it might attract a different kind of pest lol.

In the past I mostly stuck to lemon grass oil. No pests of the other kind too interested in an old married lady. Other than more cats.

The "big trend" for flies this year is Irish Spring soap in areas where you do not want them. I have a lot of the soap, bought it for a garden I did not grow.It issaid to repel deer and rabbits and such, too. I have fewer flies this year and have hoped it would repel ants and fleas too.

Thank you for the great information about insect repellants, I hate the ones that are chemical and really smell bad,

They feel greasy and make me sweat. This may have to be applied more often, but it is just a spray bottle and it feels cool to the skin.

That is great you were able to mix your own repellent up and that it worked. I will have to remember this for when I mow.

I love spearmint. The smell and the taste of it. It is so wonderful. Once I had eaten so much spearmint polo that I was having a withdrawal when I am quitting the sweet.
