An enjoyable interaction with a "little old lady" at Safeway this morning.

I try not to be in my "own little world" when I'm out and about. As you know, I don't carry my dumb phone when I'm out, and I'm open to talking to strangers.
This morning, I went to Safeway to buy some groceries. and wound up behind what I would describe as a "little old lady." She was maybe 89, and was buying a bunch of groceries.
As she put her items on the belt, I started to do the same. Then I stopped. I said "Sorry, I got all excited and started to put my stuff on the belt." She said "That's OK. You can do it as long as you pay for my groceries."
I laughed and said "I'd like to say I won the Lottery yesterday, but I didn't." I'm not sure if she heard what I said, but she chuckled, and we both completed our transactions.
Do you have little conversations with strangers during your day that make you smile?

@DianneN Sigh. My bank has been frozen for the last three days here and I'm not allowed to write about it. In fact, I think I wrote about my emotional reaction to a frozen bank (I can't play my little end of the month game), but that post may have been deleted. Or I dreamed I wrote such a post but never did.

@TheHorse Yup! And sometimes Eeyore, too.

@BarBaraPrz You may remember that Eeyore was the only victim when we had a mild earthquake here. He said, "Oh, well. It would be me." He fell six feet from my trophy collection to my turntable.

The other night I had an interesting conversation with Jasmine, she works at The Jiggly Room, my favorite local dance academy. She isn't exactly a stranger but we hardly know each other so I think it counts. Maybe on the censor's next day off, I'll tell you what we talked about.

Most people are very focused on themselves and what they are doing and don't even look up. I occasionally will speak with someone; but I don't get out much.

@vandana7 I have mobility issues. I usually only go out for a doctor's appointment...then we usually go out to eat.

I like to talk with strangers. The past Monday we had to rush my husband to the ER, I asked the doctors to wait him there and I waited during 6 hours. Some people were there waiting their turn to see a doctor. A middle aged man started to talk with me, we started chatting, more people joined our conversation, after a while we all looked like old friends enjoying our time... the nurse asked us "should I bring coffee and cookies?".

Sometimes I do. Other times I hate people. Which is most of the time

@wolfgirl569 Lack of humor is a disease that needs to be recognized. It can lead to serious health issues.

@vandana7 Sadly a lot of the ones I see when out are not very bright and also rude and inconsiderate.

Now that we're maskless I love the little interactions in stores.

Sometimes I have had conversations with people while we are in line to pass the time away till it is our turn. That is a good line she had for you to pay for her groceries too. I think I have used that line with something before and the person just laughed. It would have been nice if they did pay for my stuff too.

It depends on the stranger. Sometimes I do. Most of the time my interactions with them leave me annoyed.

I do sometimes! I don't have a customer-facing position at work, so I don't interact with the customers very often, but occasionally I'm out on the floor getting something for the kitchen (or actually out in the real world running my own errands) and have little chats.
