Ooh, it’s getting hot! I can make things even hotter by including another great tune by the legendary band Queen. I guess some were waiting for this one….or maybe hoping I wouldn’t include it. Either way, here it is! #4: You’re My Best Friend What do you do to follow up a marathon song like “Bohemian Rhapsody” as a single? If you’re Queen, you release this happy, mid-tempo tune about being in love and “happy at home.” Queen definitely earned their reputation as a band where you could expect the unexpected. Look at some of the songs on A Night At the Opera: besides the polar opposites mentioned above you have the bluesy “I’m in Love With My Car” and the seething-with-anger “Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To…)” (the latter about Queen’s former manager). And here’s this wonderful love song, written by John Deacon about his wife (and yes, they’re still married, 46 years later). It may sound out of place in anyone’s musical world except Queen’s.
