No Refund From the IRS

I filed our taxes as usual with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) back in February and quickly received our refund via direct deposit. After filing, I received another 1099 (a report of income) and had to file an Amended Tax Return (1040X). This prompted another $330 refund. To date we have not received this refund. I called the IRS a couple of months and was told that, yes my 1040X was received; but it had not been processed as yet. Fine. When we still didn't receive the refund I called again last week. I was instructed to call another number (via an automated voice) which I did. The automated instructions keep advising me that there are too many calls and that my call cannot be taken at this time. So now we don't have our refund; and we have no way of talking to anyone about it. It's been 6 months since our Amended Return was received (February 17). What's my next step? I don't know. It's the government...my hands are tied. Have you ever run into any red tape with your government? ****UPDATE: I was finally able to get into the telephone queue and had to wait 30 minutes to get a live IRS person. It took another 30 minutes for him to research our account. He ended up having to file a "referral" to find out why it has taken so long for the IRS to process our 1040X and for us to receive a refund. It will take up to 30 days to get a response. At least something is being done! Photo Credit: Pixabay

I would detail my time with the VA, but (a) there’s not that much paper (or cloud storage) to write down all the details on, and (b) you’d throw up your hands in disgust by the time I got to 1986 (the year the doctor told me I had MS and epilepsy, “now don’t go home and take an overdose of aspirin”) and quit reading.

@LindaOHio — he was a VA doctor, so he probably never had one.

A doctor said that to you? He should lose his license.

Maybe you can try calling them back at a later date. Is there a way to maybe email them?

I'm glad to read your update at the bottom of your post. At least something is being done. But, with it being the IRS, who know what kind of bureaucratic red tape your case will get caught up in. If by some chance you don't get your refund, I do believe there is a way you can claim that on your next year's taxes so that you get credited for the amount. I know they were saying that people who didn't get their stimulus checks would have to claim it on their next year's taxes. Of course, I would enlist the help of a professional tax accountant if that were the case. It's your money, you deserve to get it!

Thanks for the tip. I hope it doesn't come to that; and we get it sometime this year.

Yes! Our refund was sent to the wrong address in Florida. Hubs made some calls and we received it two or so weeks ago. Keep trying.

@LindaOHio glad to hear that - with the move to July 15 I suspect they have been swamped processing returns

Hmm, not that I can recall. However, family did have the same trouble as you with their refund. I feel like they finally received it in May .

Sorry you are still waiting for your refund. We always owe because of my self employment status. Trust me I couldn't make them wait like they make others wait.
