Happy Tuesday from this side of the planet. It is 12:50 PM here and I am mylotting while the rice gets cooked for lunch. It is a simple lunch menu today. It's rice, moong dal and potato and beans fry. We will have curd, sliced cucumber and onions as side dishes. I have got two more students from this week. They are from Grade 8 and struggle with Maths and Science. I need to give them the extra help for these subjects, so that they can cope with the class. And these children have been assigned extra help classes with me. So, on Tuesday and Thursday, I will have their classes from 11:30-12:30 when they have a break in their regular classes. On Monday and Wednesday, they would be with me from 2 to 3. Their school gets over by 1:15 and I want to be free by 3 to attend to my daughters, they get their classes over by 3. So, I have got some extra responsibility on work front and also my work timings have increased a bit. I am looking forward to working with them. Today was my first day with them and they are pleasant children to talk to.. It would be good if I can help them with the gap and make them cope with the class Hope everyone is doing good. I could not be here much yesterday as I got busy helping my younger daughter with her studies. And my elder one also wanted me to dictate a few things from her notes. She learns it better when we dictate. It is very rare that she asks for any help. I am always happy to help her. Due to my absence here, the notifications have piled up and I should go answering them before I start reading new discussions here.

They are smart kids but just lack some skills and I need to work on those. I liked them, quite happy and full of life. I am sure it will be a good experience to teach them. It must be pretty late there for you to be awake.

@arunima25 It's 3:20 am. I just finished cooking lunch and supper for the day. It heats the house up less if I cook at night while it's cool outside.

It is online. They are planning to open schools partially. Let's see. Today is Teej. it must be special in your family as this is the first one for your daughter after her marriage.

The food sounds good and the extra work sounds interesting :-) Probably because I've done the same myself as work. Do they get extra lessons from the school or do the parents arrange it?

@arunima25 That's good, it means it that not only the richest can afford it. I worked as a teacher til last summer, I had some years when parts of my positiion was extra lessons for those who needed it. It was a lot of work getting it though. Nobody pays anything for school, but schools don't get enough money to afford the extra lessons that are often needed. I work as a teachers educator now, reading all the articles on special education. It's a lot, and they don't agree.

@Torunn Good to meet someone from a similar work field. Awareness about special education and special needs children is increasing but still, a lot has to be done. I agree there that there is a lot to learn and explore in the area of special education. Many therapists and professionals come together to share and learn together.

They get these extra remedial sessions from school with little extra charge. It is a minimal charge on top of their regular fees. Going other places for remedial sessions can be a big bomb on your pocket. Therapists here charge a lot. So, did you work as special educator?

Congrats on getting the new students! Do you do the tutoring online or face to face?

@arunima25 Yes that's what I have heard too. Many find it a challenge to adapt to online learning.

Now due to the pandemic, it is online else these classes were face-to-face. Physical sessions were much more effective than online ones.

@cahaya1983 It gets tough with special children. I am a special educator and my students are those with special needs. it becomes too overwhelming for them.

When I had new students, there was always so much paperwork involved. Glad those days are over.

@arunima25 It’s a shame when they aren’t diagnosed early on.

@DianneN Yes, they lose so much time. Early intervention is so important. But these two children are so smart and good at other things. And they have no social behavior issues. In fact, they are so friendly and social. They are quite popular too in the class. And smart enough to figure out a coping skill to deal with their difficulties. It's only when the syllabus got a bit advanced, they showed a huge gap.

These children have been late-diagnosed for learning disorders. We do have paperwork involved but they are more digital and easier to manage.
