A bank that will lend you an extra $20

I keep hearing a commercial for an online bank--Varo. What keeps catching my attention is that they are promoting the fact that they will lend customers "an extra $20" when they need it. I keep thinking "what is $20 really going to solve?" I guess it can put some gas in the tank of your car or a few items in your refrigerator if you are really in dire straits. It just seems like an odd marketing stance for the bank.

There is a 5 dollar service fee connected with a loan of 20 dollars. It must be repaid in 30 days. It can be helpful to someone short that month. If you're out using the card and your balance is less than the bill, it might be a lifesaver. I do think that 5 dollars is kind of high for a 30 day loan of 20 bucks.

Years ago when my daughter was small we found twenty dollars. In those days that meant days of sure food so we were delighted. That's a shady deal from that bank.

Offering cash incentives seems to be the most popular tool as of late to get customers.

I received $250 in my account when I signed up for my paychecks to be directly deposited into my account. That was a one time thing though.

You're right, but it's certainly clever publicity.

For some people I'm sure $20 is very precious. With God's grace I hope that we never get into a situation such as that.

I'm sure there is something behind this. The extra $20 might mean something to others but not so much to some.
