Your love life's DOA

Is the third line of the theme song to the Friends series. Whenever I saw reruns of the show on TV and heard the theme song I could never make out the last word of that line. Had no idea what they were singing. Decided to google it today and found out the last word is DOA. Obviously, DOA is an acronym. I have no clue what it stands for so searched for it and turns out DOA stands for Dead on Arrival. So the third line is really "Your love life's dead on arrival." Wonder what the writer was trying to say here... Your love life is dead before it even begins???

Sometimes a poem or a lyric can be interpreted many different ways. Depends on the person reading it.

Yeah, basically. They are trying to illistrate that the characters need their friendship to get through life struggles because by themselves, their lives are......stressful?

@lovebuglena It's just saying, you have no love life to fall back on because it fails before it starts.

You really didn't know what DOA meant? lol The song is about how everything else in your life can be falling apart, but your friends will be there for you.

@lovebuglena I don’t think it’s something that’s used much anymore these days.

I got that lol. I was wondering about that line specifically. And no I had no idea what DOA meant, even though I watch Chicago PD and NCIS: LA.

It's a love song in frustration. It's written by a frustrated song writer.

I guess it could be that the writer of the song was frustrated.

@lovebuglena That's my guess. Songwriters actually are practical writers. What they see and what they feel are written by them in their songs.

I watch reruns. Do not remember if I've ever watched it when it was airing originally.

Yes. The song is saying that nothing is going your way--your job's a joke, you're broke, your love life's DOA. . . but your friends will be there for you.
