I was invited to my brother´s house.

My sister and her husband came for medical check ups and they went to visit my brother. He and his wife live 2 houses from mine but he does not invite me so I knew that this invitation came from my sister and only from her.
But as time goes by, I am less interested in small talk. Some time was spent in different ailments and then the conversation turned to politics.
I confess that I am not interested in any of them. I feel that people, at a certain age, tend to "play poker" with their illness. One says " I have this and that" (his or her card) and the other person tries to place a bigger one over that one. I am not interested in discovering whether I have the ace or not. The pain will not go away just by mentioning.
Politics now is another thing I´m not interested in any longer. The big fish all try to fill their pockets no matter what their party. That´s the way it is.
I have more interests in common with my online friends than with my siblings. It is a pity. I had a cup of tea (no coffee was offered) and some sopaipillas (small fried fritters made of flour and mashed pumpkin).
I behaved my best, friends. I hope I was polite.
Now it is time for bed.

You were extremely kind and displayed maturity. This is what you've always done! If they choose to be distant, that's their own personal infirmity.

I agree. I won´t let this affect my life as I have not done anything wrong.

@kobesbuddy It used to hurt me. Not anymore. My sister is different but her husband is a pest.

@marguicha Keep your head up high, in spite of their rude behavior.

When I used to visit my brother it was like his chairs had thorns and I could not wait to get up and run away.

We have such situations in our family and they only want people when there is an event. A niece called me for a zoom meet to celebrate her parents golden jubilee. She never kept in contact with me for years. I just snubbed her and told her I have nothing to do with her nor her parents who too never keep in touch with anyone. But others joined. I felt sorry for them as what is the point in that meet when there is no love.exchanged.

@marguicha This has become a trend now. There is not a single family where there is a strong bond between family members. And that kind of gives me consolation feeling that I am not the only one.

@marguicha My brother and I never really got on but we always visited even after my mother passed away. It was pretty hypocritical really.

Same here I don't really talk much politics over here. I did it one time, and years later realize that it was not worth it.

I did what it was needed a long time ago, at the time when Pinochet was in power.

I talk that with my close friends. But not with people whose ideas I don´t really know nor how will they react.

I don't understand that, either, the habit of trying to top the other's story about what they're going through or had gone through medically. That's why I don't talk about mine. I will ask questions just to satisfy my curiosity, but won't share anything.

It just annoys me. And at the age we all had at that table, of course everything thought that the winner was their card. I an sure that there are more interesting subjects of conversation.
