She Just Wants To Know

United States

I know a lady, that wants to know all of your business, and is very skilled at getting it out of you. But, is very skilled at getting everyone's business. I learned long ago to stay away. Actually, I don't see what knowing about what's going on with everyone else. She makes everyone quite nervous, and they don't like being around her. So my question is, how does one deal with a person like this, and if you ever had to.

I worked with a person like this. A bunch of us got together and started making up stories and sharing misleading or untrue facts about others. In a short time, this person had lost all credibility and was shunned by most everyone. They eventually quit. I just don't have time for people like that anymore and stay away.

After knowing person's nature, we can be alert in front of them. I mean even if they try to something like that we should only speak limited things which are safe.

Yes, I've had to deal with someone like that... I told her to mind her business and I'd take care of mine. She got huffy and doesn't speak to me anymore. That works for me.

Maybe ask all about all of her business...says "Enough about me, lets hear about you." People are weird, maybe she just wants to talk about herself, doubtful, but you could try.

That's a good idea, but it just gives her license to ask about mine.

I think you've already given the answer: stay away if possible! Of course, it can be difficult if this person is a colleague you have to see every day. If it becomes unbearable to work with such a person, you may ask for a transfer to a different department..
