Freedom

Today has really got me looking back at how America has changed over the years or at least in my years. What I once thought and felt and now what I see around me and how I feel today. You know its almost 35 years ago that I joined the Marine Corps. When I joined there was not war going on we were fairly safe in our lives but there were two major reasons I joined. One I knew I was not going to college, and it seemed a good career choice. The other was because I believed our freedoms were worth protecting and that our way of life was a pretty good one. Like I say I didn’t join in the middle of a war, but I was willing to go if need be. I believed at the time that it would be worth the risk to keep our freedoms and our way of life. Maybe not for me if I were to get killed but for our future generations. Think about all that has changed in the last say 12 years. Things that I thought wouldn’t happen have happened. We gave out government the right to force us into buying products we might not want. We have turned against each other for our beliefs more than I ever remember, we let our government and media divide us more than ever. Our elections have become a joke to the world. We went from never negotiating with terrorist to trading 5 for 1 and now we make deals with them. We always have pushed that we will never leave Americans behind and now we give away billions in weapons and leave thousands behind. We used to protect our own and our allies and now we leave them behind to be slaughtered by our enemy. We used to protect our boarders and keep our citizens safe, now we open our boarders and give more rights to those who break the law than those who follow the law. We allow some of our citizens to burn our cities to the ground and kill dozens because one cop killed one person. We want to see a cop strung up because he is accused of brutality, but we do nothing while dozens are killed everyday in our inner cities. When someone speaks out about this, we rather call them a racist than seeing the truth in the statement. We now let a few convince us that there are 588 different genders when science tells us there are two, save for the very small percent that have a rare exception. We don’t want to believe that science, but they are yelling about believing the science behind a vaccination. Of course, if you don’t cater to these people well then you must be a sexist or some sort of phobist. Our government and media have divided us so far apart that we can’t even see it anymore, our country is falling apart at the seems and we do nothing about it. We tear down our history instead of learning from it and correcting it going forward. Instead of learning from our past we rather pretend it didn’t happen so that we won’t have our feelings hurt. I remember once hearing the words “UNITED WE STAND, DEVIDED WE FALL”. I don’t know where or when or even who first spoke those words, but it always reminds me of our first 13 colonies. They pulled together to fight for our freedoms. Yes, freedoms to choose to live and think how you wish. Not the freedom to force me into living and thinking like you want me to.

Everything you wrote is true and it is sad, very sad. I have the feeling that the media and the governments are doing their best to divide people. We hate each other, we are selfish, we do not care of what is going to happen to the future generations. This is not the world where I was born and this is not a place that I like anymore.

@Bensen32 No, you are not the only ones, this is happening everywhere, people seem unhappy, they kill other people for the least silly reason, I cannot understand what is happening.

Yeah, I speak of America since it is where I am from and what I see most but from a few stories I read I guess we are not the only ones in these type situations. Yeah, not liking it at all.

@LadyDuck I figured as much, I just don't keep up on the rest of the world since there is so many stupid things going on right here at home.

@Bensen32 Thank you for standing up for what you believe in. Thank you for sharing this with us. I left the United States to live in Israel because it is the only Jewish country in the world and we have a right to live in peace but there is not peace with our enemies not letting us be.

@Bensen32 It would be nice if it could be but as long as people do not like us at all there will not be peace.

It's sad, really. This doesn't feel like America anymore. It hasn't for a long time.

I agree, and I wonder if we can ever get back to that.

@Bensen32 Same. You'd think a crisis, such as this "pandemic" would bring people closer, but no. We're being told to stay away from each other. Widining an already existing devide.

@kaylachan yep anything to divide the people. it's easier to control the masses if you can divide them. that is where the saying divide and conquer.

It is sad I think at this moment everyone is more divided than united and it is time to get back together before its too late,

@Bensen32 I think we’re well past the point of no return. At this point, I’m more focused on learning how to adapt to living in this sh*those our country has become.

I think you are right and sadly I'm not sure there is a way to go back to it. I'm ready to do my part but is everyone else? This is not the kind of place I want to live in anymore.
