Second Covid Vaccine Done

Yesterday I went to Baton Rouge to get my second dose of the Covid vaccine. I was hoping to get the same nurse I had last time but I got another one. This nurse was very nice and asked me about my reactions(s) to the first dose of the vaccine and also shared with me what other patients have said. I told her that I had the best night of sleep after the first dose and she said that several other people said the same thing. This vaccine didn't hurt either but she wasn't quite as good as the other nurse. I didn't seem to be as sleepy hours after getting this dose as I was with the first. I iced my injection site with a cube of ice out of my drink after we left and picked up a late lunch for a picnic at the park. I iced my arm again when I got home. This morning my arm is not really sore, but a bit tender at the injection site. What was your worst symptom from the vaccine? I'm glad this is over and I'm ready to hit the road back to the beautiful beaches of Florida at the end of next week. I have to run now and get ready for work!! Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

Congratulations! I'm glad you didn't have any of the other symptoms from getting the shot(s). I didn't have any problems with the first shot but ran a fever and threw up with the second one. Pretty was sick with the first one but not the second.

I am hoping that my hubbys does't have any problems with the second one either. He is scheduled right after we come home from Florida. I may try and talk him into going before we leave. I doubt I'll be successful though. It sounds like you had a pretty bad time with the second one. Which kind did you get?

@DaddyEvil We got pfizer. From the news I had heard from friends who had already been vaccinated, more had side effects with Moderna.

@kareng We had Moderna... It wasn't fun but the fever and upset stomach only lasted two days. I hope your hubby doesn't have any problems with his second shot.

I am one of the unvaccinated. My immune system has kept me healthy for the last 60 years. I see no need at all to mess with it now Especially with a vaccine which clearly is not doing what it days on the tin.

We had decided to skip it too until it hung around and the varients popped up. I had to take into consideration going into the nursing home to visit my mother. I would not want to pass something on to her. Or my grandchildren. We still do not go to a lot of places with people and crowds. I think if everyone did the social distancing with people they do not know and even wore a mask to protect themselves when going out in public and around people it would not be needed. The vaccine is not 100% and never will be as often as the varients are popping up. They will be wanting people to go get a booster every month. That ain't happening in my arm.

@JimBo452020 Yep. Did you and your wife have to get the vaccine for the cruise you just took?

@kareng After.12.weeks its thought to be about 30% That's the reason for the boosters. But every shot reduces natural immunity and immunity to other things.

After my first dose, I basically had all the symptoms of Covid for almost a week. After my second dose, my Covid symptoms lasted about 3 days. And when I say Covid symptoms, I mean it truly felt like I was sick all over again from the virus. Glad you fared much better.

@kareng I got the Moderna vaccine. And I’m trying to eat healthier and get my vitamins to give my immune system that extra boost it needs.

@CarolDM I know it is for me. My mind starts to go and linger on these things that I have little control over.

The only thing I got from either was a really sore arm, other than that no reaction.

Next time ice the arm as soon as you get home. Do that a couple times before bed and it will make a world of difference!!

@DocAndersen When the nurse quizzed me on my reaction to the first one she was surprised that my arm wasn't sore. Then I told her that I used ice packs on and off and she that that was a great idea.

@m_audrey6788 I would have rather had a good night's sleep, but oh well--still better than drastic side effects!!

I guess that would be a better side effect than throwing up or running high fever!

Glad you are done now. Dont be worried if you feel flu like in the next couple of weeks. I had that happen about 2 weeks after my second one.

Wow, I was lucky. I always ice my arm after injections and it keeps the soreness away.

I'm glad that you don't have major side effects! My arm was sore after the first and the second dose for a few days. After the first dose, I didn't notice any reaction, after the second one I had 38C fever and felt sleepy for a day. After that, everything was ok :)
