lots of culls today!

Today's finds in the culls areas really made up for Friday's slim pickings. In the morning, I found a box of 8 croissants, a jug of cold brew coffee with oat milk, a strawberry drinkable yogurt, a tub of spinach dip, and a layer cake with sprinkles (what they call a birthday layer cake)!
But wait, there's more!
Throughout the day, people in different departments brought me things as they culled them out -- the deli gave me 2 turkey sandwiches, 3 packages of sliced turkey deli meat, 1 package of sliced Black Forest ham, and half a chub of peppered turkey meat that was close to the date (which is that weird object on the right, next to the hot dogs). The produce department brought over 2 shopping carts full of tubs of greens and my department manager offered me some (I took one box of baby kale because I wasn't sure if I'd use up more than that in time). The guy who makes the sushi every day gave me a spicy tuna sushi bowl!
At the end of my shift, I checked the culls fridge one last time and found some potato salad and more hot dogs. I suspect that the hot dogs that are being culled are what didn't sell over Labor Day weekend, and I think the potato salad is from the batch that I made on Friday.
So much food! The sushi bowl has already been eaten, as well as the drinkable yogurt and 2 of the croissants (although I stashed the remaining ones away so I can make some breakfast sandwiches with them for tomorrow morning). My oldest stepchild just happens to have a birthday today and has already been presented with the layer cake.
The peppered turkey is going to be a little tricky to use, as it is quite peppery. Maybe I'll grind it up and use it to make chili, as I already know the kids won't use it in sandwiches because they think it's too spicy.
How has your day been so far? I'm about to enjoy some of this spinach dip.

In this case, culled items are things that are being removed from the store inventory. Often they are items with damaged packaging or that are close to their expiration or sell-by date, but sometimes they are overstocked items that the store doesn't want to keep in the back anymore.
My store puts these unwanted items in designated areas in the back of the store so that employees can take them home for free if they'd like.

@spiderdust oh that’s nice. Instead of throwing them away, people can make use of culled items

@sol_cee Yes, exactly! I try to only take things that I know I will use.

I spent most of the day asleep from the epi-pen shot yesterday... Pretty wants me to take her shopping in a little while... It's nice for my eyes to be open again. (I won't waste the epi-pen on opening my eyes, but it's a nice bonus after thinking I might have to go to the ER last night when my throat started closing up.)
Wow! You did really well on the grocery front! (Pretty loves the highly spiced turkey. I leave it alone because it's too spicy for me, too. I believe she's got three packages of it in the freezer now.)

@spiderdust Yes, I'm fine, thank you. We don't know what caused it. We think it might be the neighbors kicking up dust into the air. They're building a new garage.

@DaddyEvil That must have been alarming when it happened!

I think I missed what caused the allergic reaction, although I do remember you mentioning that epi-pens wipe you out. Are you okay?

All those food items are wonderful, your family will surely enjoy these yummy delights! The peppered turkey, chili would be the best option to use it for your family.

I think so too. I even have some leftover beans that I can use for making the chili.

@spiderdust That will make an awesome dinner, if your family enjoys chili.

@kobesbuddy Half of them do, which makes it still worthwhile to make.

Yes, these are things that were either at their expiration/sell by/best by dates or had damaged packaging. They were in the designated areas at my store for items that are free for employees or vendors or food bank collectors, and they are thrown away after a certain period of time if unclaimed.

Tell kidlet I said happy birthday!
I got two tubs of cream cheese yesterday at Wally World. They were bogo or something. But it made me happy because they had smoked salmon flavor, and I can never find that stuff.

That particular kidlet turned 19! How did that happen?

I know! I did have to purchase a few things and my cashier giggled at me because I had more culls in my cart than actual purchased items.
