James Garner passed away in his Brentwood, CA home of a massive heart attack back in 2014 at the age of 86. I have enjoyed his work from his Maverick days and Rockford to him playing the husband in The Ya-Ya Sisterhood. He is an Emmy and Academy Award-winning actor. He is handsome and it's fun to watch him act. But, did you know that he served in the Oklahoma National Guard beginning when he was 16 and was injured in the Korean War in 1952? He was awarded twice the Purple Heart.

And did you know his actual family name was Bumgarner? He's always been a favorite.

Loved The Rockford Files. What a great and funny show. It was not uncommon for people to lie about their age to get into the service back then. There was a bluegrass performer named Red Rector who lied about his age to join the Navy when he was thirteen. I don’t know if Garner lied about his age or had his parents’ permission to join that young,

James Garner also did the voiceover for the Chevy Tahoe commercial. He is one of my favorite actors. I watched him in both shows that you mentioned and in several movies.
