This painting is called Portrait of a Woman with a Winged Bonnet by Rogier van der Weyden . I would hate to wear this on my head everyday, and the whole thing is held on with straight pins. I don't see how that is safe at all. In fact there is a pin right by her ear. Ouch! I believe the high forehead was created by plucking or shaving the hair to create a receding hairline. Also she doesn't have any eyelashes really, so maybe they plucked their eyelashes also. It's fun to look at fashion from the past. He painted this around 1440 and that makes it 581 years old. This is a video describing his work titled The Deposition of Christ. It's a beautiful painting showing our precious Christ being lifted off the cross. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rogier_van_der_Weyden_-_Portrait_of_a_Woman_with_a_Winged_Bonnet_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg
At the 0:33 mark of this video there is a portrait that is supposed to be of Jan Van Eyck but is really a portrait called "Portrait of a Carthusian" by Petru...

@misunderstood_zombie Not a bad thing at all. In fact, I learned more about liturgical arts or sacred art. That's a Renaissance painting and is surely interesting. Science, art, music, literature, architecture all flourished during the Renaissance. It's as if the great minds converged at that golden century - the 13th century. This painting explained what the painter wanted to convey in his art.

This is true. 500 years from now they will look back at pictures with masks and feel bemused.

She looks quite proper. But I can't see her forehead.

Thanks, for sharing that pictures. There aren't too many people here who share things of historical significance or even less that have artistic mertit. Also, you have sharp eyesight to pick ou that pin by the ear. I see something there but I would never notice it if it hadn't been pointed out.

That painting reminds me of the "olden days' when nurses wore such elaborate things on their heads
