Reusing Teabags

These days I mostly use teabags and still put them in a teapot. I also like to try specialty teas and these frequently arrive as loose-leaf blends. I had a teapot with a built in filter, but that got clogged and I managed to break the lid. As a replacement, I have gotten these reusable teabags. The same size as the usual bags and made of silicon. The base detaches, for easy filling, and they have a ‘string’ also made of silicon. Haven’t tried them yet, so I need to make a trip to the City and get some tea blends for a test. I have a feeling that they will float as air looks like it will be trapped at the top.

Those look interesting, I think I should buy something similar to use when my husband asks for a tea.

@Ronrybs I will enjoy reading your report. I bought silicon molds for the cakes and I have not been happy at all about them. The traditional pans are a lot better.

@LadyDuck I have a silicon mould for cup cakes, so far I have had no problems with it

I wonder how you fill them. With a teaspoon perhaps?

I wonder if those little holes are enough to get the air out

There is a space between the top of the bag and the first set of holes that air can't escape from, but the first testing will reveal all!

My grandmother used to re-use hers as that was about all she drank.

@CarolDM I am thinking that you should get that little bit extra tea when you are not paying for paper bags!

@Ronrybs I totally agree. She also used loose tea.

I had never heard of these or seen them Ron. Yes I was thinking they might float too..I hope not. Well best of luck with them. Let us know how they do. Pity you accidentally broke the teapot.

The filter was getting clogged, so the tea barely trickled out, so it was probably doomed anyway!

Let us know if they work! I have often seen those metal strainer-type holders on little chains in the shops, that come in various cute shapes, but I've not tried them as I don't drink tea. In the 'old days' my parents just used the sort of strainer that you rest on top of the cup and pour the tea through - I still have one of those.

Yes, I still have one of those strainers, but they are fiddly. Just need to get some loose leafs and give them a whirl.
