Mid week off... harvest in the rain...

Good morning from this side of the planet. It's 9 AM here as I write this post..It has been pouring with thunderstorm throughout the night. I woke up to a chill morning and loud music of raindrops on my terrace. The temperature has dropped and we need some light jacket to keep us warm. I am a bit worried about the plants. It's been excessive rain in last few weeks and I fear that I planted might not survive due to this rain. Not possible to take all pots indoors. Anyway, I stepped out with my umbrella and harvested these beans. I am adding them to the fried rice that I plan to make for lunch It's a holiday for us. It's Mahalaya here and that's the beginning of the ten days long festival of Dussehra. Good to get a mid week off.. And our 10 days long break begins from this Saturday. So I am working on Thursday and Friday and then a semester break It's a day off but a lot on my to do list. I will keep peeping in here all day long. Done with morning chores, a good indoor workout and yummy filling breakfast. I will sit here and relax for a while before I move on to other set of chores. Have a good time in your mylot corner

Is it raining more than usual in Bangalore? That is a good harvest. Today is the final Amavasya (New Moon Day) Shraddha and Navratris begin from tomorrow. I have Dusshera as a holiday but not others. Kids might get 1 or 2 days off more but much less than the 6-7 days Autumn break they used to had many years ago. And well.. not all changes are for good but well.. one just needs to change one's mental adaptation!! Have a rocking Wednesday.

It's more than previous years. Not the frequency but more of intensity. It's too much of heavy rain this time. Light showers and drizzles are more common here. Regular rains are still okay but it's too much of heavy pouring this year. We have a week long break. Including two weekends it becomes 10 days total. My elder one has got two and only two days later towards end of Navratri as holiday. And officially it is just Dussehra day that is completely off for her. Else everyday she has extra coaching classes. And soon after Dussehra both have their pre board exams. So, the little break that they get is more like study leave. You are right. It's all about mental adaptation. Changes will always be there, for good or bad.

@arunima25 The shift towards heavier showers is not good. It can alter local vegetation and farm output in farms around Bangalore as well. Yes changes can have both sides.

@arunima25 So you might need a special arrangement for some vegetables in your garden! Today is bright, sunny and pleasant- one of the best times of the year.

Those look like snap beans. Do you eat the younger ones raw? I like them that way. We make fried green beans sometimes. Have you ever done that? YUM! Happy semester break, a little bit early.

We call them french beans here. We have other varieties like long beans, flat beans etc and some sub varieties in them. You can eat them raw when they are young and tender. I generally saute them a bit to add them to salads. We get a break for Dussehra and that becomes our semester break. We have it for 5 days but including the two weekends it becomes 10 days.

I am not a big fan of those long green, I like more those flat and yellow that you cook with a little butter.

@LadyDuck It was a night long light showers but now the sun is out. Some of my spring onions got spoiled. I have brought the other two pots inside the shaded gazebo.

We do have some flat beans saplings coming out well. If rain does not ruin it, we might get some harvest soon.

Thanks Dianne. These beans were extra yummy. After all they were harvest of my love and labour I plan to do cleaning around the house and work on my art orders. So I will be working in the holidays. Diwali is nearing. So a deep cleaning project around the house will start.. My daughters have their important exams from mid October and their various competitive exams and entrances to college exam will start soon. So we have no plans for any outdoor activities. So, nothing better than cleaning the house

@DianneN That won't be plenty. I am sure the holiday would be over and still I will have some cleaning left. There is a fair chance that I would be mylotting more than actual cleaning

Yes, fresh harvests always taste better. Also they are healthier. Today I harvested few veggies. Enough for few days. It will save me buying veggies for few days.

You are right. Fresh vegetables are always yummy. And if it comes from our own garden, it's even better. It's the harvest of love and labour
