Vomit ~ Oh,Yuck!

Our younger son was out shopping at Trader Joe’s this morning and texted to ask if I needed anything. So thoughtful. Next, he went to our local supermarket to pick up more things for his camping trip tomorrow. All of a sudden, he felt nauseous from the smell of all the rotisserie chickens being cooked. Being a strict vegetarian, he was grossed out and then vomited into his mask! He ran to the men’s room to clean up, finished his shopping, and went home. The store robot announced a spill in the vegetable aisle. Funny, he told me this when he came for a visit while I was making meatloafs and meatballs for the freezer this afternoon. He loved the smell of the garlic and didn’t vomit.

He said that the chicken smell permeated half the store. It got to him. He still remembers how delicious my meatballs were, but he won’t eat any meat at all. He’d be a vegan if it wasn’t for his love of cheese. I have to eat his vegetarian cooking!

Omg he vomited in his mask! I can just imagine how grossed out he must have felt. I get the same reaction when I smell pork. The smell makes me sick. And the same for my son.

Fortunately it wasn’t too much, but all he could do was wipe what he could into the mask and run to wash up. So gross! Pork can do it, too.

I can totally understand your son. I suffer from GERD (an acid reflux disease) and the smell of food bothers me when I'm sick. I can only eat plain stuffs with no smell whenever I'm having a GERD attack else I will continuously vomit

@DianneN That is no fun that he had to vomit. Garlic has a nice smell so can understand why he liked that smell and did not smell the meatloaf and meatballs that he did not vomit.

Sometimes it happens with some and they need not be vegan. I am a vegetarian but I cook for my family. I never felt anything yucky while cleaning and cooking those non vegetarian items. My elder one who is a meat lover could not withstand the smell of some meat being cooked in one of the restaurants in Phuket. She had to rush to the washroom to throw up. Luckily she didn't throw up in the dining space of the restaurant.

This was the first time it’s ever happened to him. I guess the smell of anything can hit us the wrong way. A friend’s perfume gave me a terrible headache.

It was disgusting for him for sure , but I suggest he might practise smelling chicken/ meat cooking in the home kitchen so he gets accustomed with it. Initially it would be unbearable, but he will get adjusted soon.

@DianneN I can fully understand how he feels. I harbor high regards for his vegetarianism, but in this meat eating world in order to cope and not face anymore awkward moments he might try doing this activity gradually. Though I am not a vegetarian myself, most Indians are strictly vegetarian, he might get some useful tips from them, if he knows anybody.
