OMG! We Were Arrested!

Pretty wanted to go to Walmart to get some pasta... On our way home we were pulled over. The Officer said she was a new hire in our city. (Pretty and I had been talking, trying to figure out why we were pulled over. I wasn't speeding. I wasn't weaving through traffic. And we weren't transporting illegal drugs.) The officer was very nice. I gave her my driver's license and insurance card. She took them and started to her car and then stepped back to my window. "Are you related to Officer Evil?" the young woman asked. Smiling, like I always do, I replied, "Oh, yes, Officer Evil is my nephew." The Officer went back to her patrol car and called my name and license number in to make sure I didn't have any warrants out for my arrest and came right back. Handing me my cards, the Officer told me my left headlight was out so I needed to take care of that as soon as possible. Thanking her for letting us know, Pretty and I came home. Have you ever been pulled over for something minor?

Have the Soft On Crime Liberals taken over Missouri? When the state was being run right, you'd be horsewhipped for driving with a burned-out headlight.

Years ago I was pulled over for a burned out taillight. The cop just wanted me to get it replaced so the car wasn't a hazard on the roads.

@DaddyEvil And look where that soft on crime attitude has gotten us. My horse whip stock is nearly worthless now.

@xander6464 The funny thing back then was the cop asked my friend, who was riding with me, for his name and license, too. My friend lied that he didn't have his license on him and gave his brother's name... After the cop let us go I asked my friend why he lied. He told me he had a warrant out for his arrest. When we got to his house he changed the bulb in the taillight and checked the rest of the bulbs in my car.

I have, I was pulled because one of my tail lights was out. He told me to get it fixed and drove on.

This is the second time we've been pulled over during the pandemic. The first time was a few months ago. The officer wanted to ask why I hadn't gotten my license plate updated. I told him I hadn't gotten a notice that it was due... He let me go. When I got to the License Bureau and told them what happened, they told me he wasn't supposed to pull people over for that since the Bureau was slow sending out renewal notices. He was either bored or just looking for someone to harass.

@DaddyEvil On each road there is a road divider with a straight line and when we violate we will be told to pull over and pay a fine otherwise we will be summoned to court.

I've been pulled over for a burned out headlight before. Not a big deal... The time I was pulled over because the car I was driving had no lights in the rear? That was a big deal, because it turned out the entire wiring harness had fried and we were looking at around a grand to fix it. Car wasn't worth nearly that much, so we ended up trading it in sometime within the next couple of weeks.

@DaddyEvil That was the really weird thing about it--I got pulled over, but he didn't even check my license and registration, just came up to my window and let me know that all my rear lights were out... and also that it was a known issue with that particular model of car and I should have someone take a look at the electrical system as soon as I could. I was totally expecting a repair order like I'd gotten for the burned out headlight, but he just let me go on my merry way after that with no fuss whatsoever. The only thing I can possibly think of that might have led to that outcome was the fact that my ex happens to be a veteran officer with that specific department. Beyond that, I got nothin.

I am glad it was nothing serious. I do not drive, my husband has been pulled a couple of times pretending he was speeding, it happened in Italy, they could not prove that it was true, I was there to say they were wrong (), they let us go.

@DaddyEvil We already did not live in Italy anymore and we had a non Italian plate, the two cops knew that without an evidence of excessive speed we would have never paid the ticket. Some cops are bad apples and they should be thrown out from the police force immediately.

I'm glad they let you go without too much problem. I was pulled over once and accused of driving through two stop signs without stopping. I had witnesses in the car willing to go to court and testify that the cop was lying. The chief of police in that town told the judge to believe us and not the cop. (The chief of police told the judge he wouldn't trust the cop as far as he could throw him.) That cop was fired right after that happened.

I was stopped one time and the sherrif's deputy claimed I was driving 68 in a 55 zone. I was driving 58, not 68. I was so mad...I barely drive 68 in a 70 zone! He gave me a warning ticket which was totally unfair. Glad you didn't get a ticket for that headlight.

@DaddyEvil - One time, when I was in my 30s, a police officer pulled me over because I did not have a front license plate. I was driving an older little MG convertible that my husband had bought, and it did not have a place for a front license plate. The officer did not give me a ticket, and did not explain how I could put a license plate on the front of it. He just chatted for a couple of minutes about the car. My husband said he was probably just flirting with me, so I didn't worry about my little "adventure."

@DeborahDiane Pretty told that story to every one of my friends and they laughed harder the more I blushed! She's an evil child! (I told her the other day that nobody ever believes me when I claim she's terrible and evil. She laughed and laughed!) I bet the cop was smiling if he did hear your granddaughter.

He probably was flirting with you. The first Mustang I bought didn't have a place for a front license plate, either. But the guy I bought the Mustang off of told me he'd been pulled over for not having one. The officer who pulled him over told him to screw the plate straight into the rubber/plastic front bumper, so that's what I did.

@DaddyEvil - Eventually, my husband got some kind of plate holder for the front of the our MG, too. However, you have destroyed the thought that the police officer was flirting with me ... if a man you know was pulled over for the same reason! Devastating news!

I've been pulled over for speeding, a few times. I was pulled over once for running a yellow light, which I thought was odd. If the cop was aware that your headlight was out, she actually did you a favour, its hard to tell with that sometimes if you are always the driver.

Exactly. Yes, going anything above 2.2 kph (5 mph) above the speed limit, can get you pulled over around here. I would have thought being pulled over for going through on a yellow light odd, too. That's still legal. There's no telling how long the headlight was burned out. We haven't gone out driving at night since the pandemic began. I normally won't drive at night. I couldn't tell it was out. Pretty and I remarked on that when we were heading home.

@Juliaacv It just depends on the officer... When I was still working at Walmart, I'd set my speedometer for 5 mph over the limit and let the cruise control bring me home. They never bothered me. That must be nice.

@RasmaSandra I never bother to see what the officer's name is when I've been pulled over. Most of the time, I only know their name after I've gotten a ticket and have time once I've gotten home to see what's written on it. But yes, I agree, if their name placards were bigger and made you see the name, then yeah, I bet he could have a lot of fun while pulling people over.
