Trees are attractive additions to our landscape. It's hard not to appreciate their beauty. Pine and palm alike. But, they offer much more. They are the oldest living organisms on this planet. Here are some interesting facts: Around the world, there are over 60,000 species of trees most of which are found in Brazil, Colombia, and Indonesia. They can communicate with one another. Some trees can secrete chemicals that help to warn trees nearby that pests are attacking. Trees also can absorb carbon dioxide and convert it into oxygen. One mature tree can absorb 48 pounds of carbon dioxide in one year. This fact is very important in climate change. In California's Redwood National Park stands a Sequoia named Hyperion. This tree is 380 feet tall as of 2019 and is the tallest tree in the world. (I hope it still stands after the fire this year that came so close) We must protect these wonderful specimens from deforestation. Image courtesy of unsplash.com

We should protect the trees, but very little is done to protect the Amazon forest and we will pay this in the near future.

@celticeagle So true, they destroy the forest to produce that garbage palm oil, not healthy, but cheap!

I wonder how much physical space 48 pounds of carbon dioxide takes up. And, of course, when you burn wood, any stored in it is released.

Sure. It's of help anyway. The 48 pounds that is.

Many manufacturing companies are doing just that.
