I am knee-deep in finishing my taxes for 2020--We made so much less because of Covid--voice lessons stopped, so did church services for my husband --at least for a while--you would think that we wouldn't owe any taxes, but so far, that doesn't seem to be the case--As I go through the software program, it amount goes up sometimes and down other times depending on what info I am entering--it feels a little like a slot machine--only I will be putting money in --not taking money out

@Divalounger I must say that your process for doing taves seems a lot more stressful that ours. Ten minutes and I'm through with it. Maybe I'm missing something!!

I have almost all freelance work--and my husband has a combination of W2 and 1099 work--deductions are a nightmare

@JimBo452020 Indeed - I had to change my address this year and you know how complicated that can be.

I still fill the forms manually and send, it takes half an hour to complete.

@LadyDuck That sounds so much easier than what I have to handle each year. I use a tax software program, but it still takes hours!

@divalounger Our tax forms are not not really complicated, almost no one needs a professional to do this.

@divalounger Hope you don't end up playing "catch up" for a long time like we are still

We ended up owing more than you would want to pay--in some part because we were so worried about cash flow that I didn't contribute much to our retirement funds or pay enough in estimated taxes--but it is working itself out--I pay additional funds this year both for estimated and for retirement--

Taxes don't stop. We all have a lot to make up for. 2020 wasn't fun for a lot of people.

That sounds like our taxes this last year. Pretty (my daughter) and I both work online plus I worked at Walmart. She does our taxes and I could hear her cussing every once in a while. I stayed away from her unless she yelled at me for some information... We ended up getting money back, but only by the skin of our teeth.

We use an accountant, but the stress is always there. We lucked out by getting a nice refund for a change. I hope you do, too.

Well it is all done and filed! I won't be getting a refund, so I need to sit down and take a look at how to manage our money a little differently --

@DianneN Perhaps--although we do just fine really--my income is all freelance and my husband's pension doesn't take out enough in taxes--so between the 2, it is hard to gauge what we will owe each year.

@divalounger Glad it’s done at least and sorry about the no refund. One almost has to be an accountant themselves to know how to play the game.

I always expect to pay in--it was just harder to pay estimated taxes last year --I knew that would be the case when I started doing the taxes the other day--I am just hoping it won't end up being a lot.
