Did you ever see a scary movie that was heralded as being very scary and you didn't think so at all?

The Blair Witch Project was one of those movies that people found terrifying, and I didn't think it was at all. I saw this in the theater, and I was like..really? That's not scary. The Exorcist was another one that didn't scare me in the least. I did read the book though and found that pretty scary. Someone told me about Blair Witch that you had to put yourself in the position of the characters, if you didn't do that, it wasn't scary. Anyway, when I turned on the telly the last half hour of it was on...nope still not scary..

Oh I thought Scream was pretty scary. I was watching some kind of Scream thing I think it was a program based on the movie..and it actually gave me a nightmare, and I don't get them as a rule.

The Blair Witch Project wasn't scary. I'd initially watched it right after it was released to video, and I went in with high expectations of it based on all of the buzz about the movie. I spent the movie waiting for it to get interesting enough to deserve such hype; what I found, instead, was a fairly middle-of-the-road movie in which the characters spent most of the movie swearing.

I don't know whoever decided the movie was scary. Maybe it could be described as eerie, but scary no.

The Ring scared me. It was really creepy! Another one simular to that I liked was Dark Water.

@snowy22315 Dark Water scared me, the ring not so much as I expected more.

I also found that the book Exorcist was far more scary than the movie. Also the same for Rosemarys Baby (the book was far scarier than the movie).

Yes, I read that book as well and thought it was scary, the movie not so much.

@snowy22315 The scariest movie I remember (and this was many years ago) was The Hills Have Eyes. I don't know if it would be scary if I saw it now but I remember it was back then.

It is. It's a good read too. It was written sometime in the early 70's.

I watch them often. One of the reasons I like October is that so many scary movies are on. I was watching one late last night.
