Boyfriends and broken hearts

No not me. My granddaughter is having problems with her first love. I remember how painful it can be when things start to go wrong and I want to protect her, take her aching heart gently in my hands and tell that this awful pain she is feeling will eventually go away in time even if it doesn't feel like it now.
I feel that her boyfriend is messing her around but she can't see it yet and every time he calls her after breaking up with her she goes running back. Thinking back on my own first love, I was so naive and thought he was perfect, that our love was perfect. What a long time ago that was and I've certainly learned a lot since then.

Kids always believe the first love is the only one they'll ever have. I hated seeing Pretty go through that and, like you, wished I could do something to help her... The only thing we can really do is just be there for them and console them, if they'll let us.

Yes a few months ago they were planning their house and how many kids they would have. She's been seeing him for more than a year so I know it will be painful when it ends although she's gone running back to him today.

@sprite1950 I am glad you can talk. I got mad with my Mom and I stopped talking. I still remember thinking "no matter what she says, for me it will be different". I think we also thought the same.

She's very young to have a boyfriend but they have been going out for more than a year bu that expression is very apt.

Yes I remember mine. I was devastated when I found he was cheating on me and it took me a long time to get over him.

@sprite1950 Oh, that is really frustrating, as teenagers tend to dramatize events of their life, thinking they never find true love after experiencing first break up.

Well, if I look back I am happy for every time my hart broked. Those were real moments, real feelings, the love and the breakdowns created magnificant memories and made me who I am today.
I believe you can just stand by her and let her deal in silence with the feeling.
