Superstition

October 29, 2021 4:26am CST
Hi guys, Do you believe in superstition, and if you believe in it; can you describe your kind of superstition or belief and whether you are still practicing it until now. This is a general question, so let's discuss and be nice to one another. Thanks all.

I'm not really superstitious but I find myself touching wood sometimes or wondering whether a black cat crossing my path will bring good luck.

I love black cats; they are cute. Yes, have heard a lot about cats and superstition. Touching wood is something new, thanks for your answer.

@ihasaquestion We say it in the UK and it means if something is going well we touch wood in the hope it will continue

Frankly, I personally believe it dan not, but sometimes when I'm alone I feel like I'm being watched and there are shadows that go by very quickly. whether it's just my feelings or not, but this often happens in my daily life.

Oh my, perhaps it is just your imagination. Or maybe you have a phobia when being alone? I am like that too, but I don't think of anything at all.

@ihasaquestion Yes I hope it's just some kind of phobia, to be honest when it happened I didn't feel afraid, instead I sometimes traced where the shadow went ??

I've caught myself throwing a pinch of spilled salt over my left shoulder... Do you consider believing in ghosts a "superstition"?

@ihasaquestion It's to ward off the bad luck from spilling the salt. I've had encounters with ghosts before... We have one that lives in the house we're renting now. Sometimes I wake up from a nap and she'll be sitting on my bed watching me sleep. When I move or say something, she gets up and walks out of my room through the closed door. (Pretty can't see her.)

The salt thingy is for good luck, no? Well, if you ask me, I'd say ghosts are somewhat between reality and fantasy. Some believe in its existence while others don't. Superstition is more about beliefs and tradition. Perhaps, a superstition surrounding a ghostly ritual or event may be called that; like the common practices etc. Shrugs. Just my opinion.

@DaddyEvil Yikes, maybe you have a third eye.

I don't really believe in superstition. One common belief here is that if your feet are swept over by a broom you will remain single for the rest of your life

@ihasaquestion That's fake though. I don't think it ever happened to someone. Sometimes, I keep on wondering where these superstitions come from

Yes, yes I've heard about that one too but not quite sure about the single part though. Thank you for gracing my discussion.

@Nawsheen It seems fake to me too. Yeah, I think these superstitions were passed on from one generation to another and etc.

Before I used to listen to beliefs. If someone sweeps at night, the luck will be swept away as well.

I don't believe them, but there's no harm is being cautious. There are various beliefs here, such as, don't leave the table when unmarried people are still eating because they may never marry.

If you are single, you shouldn't sing while cooking or you'll risk being single for life. It's one of those things I used to hear before
