A Day to Remember!

“They” said tomorrow is going to be icky, with rain and wind and falling temperatures, so “get out and enjoy our last good weather day for what may be a long time.”
So I did.
And what a day to remember!!!
The temperature was in the low 70s, and the sun was bright. I took full advantage with a two-mile walk along the river in the Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville, Indiana. That’s right across the Ohio River from Louisville, so it was hardly a “trip.”
It was worthy of a trip if one had been necessary!
Lovely foliage and absolutely perfect weather for a walk along the river greeted me. Lots of history was there, too.
This is the area where Meriwether Lewis and William Clark met up to start their westward exploration. Just to give you an indication of how expansive their journey was, I saw “Lewis and Clark Trail” signs in Missouri, Iowa, and North Dakota!
Those guys got around.
Anyway….there’s an exposed fossil bed at the Falls of the Ohio as well, so there’s geological history as well as American history to be discovered there. And yes, there was a waterfall on the Ohio River. Erosion and dam building destroyed most of it over time, but Louisville was nicknamed “Falls City” before we became known as “Derby City.” (We even had a local beer called Falls City.)
I didn’t do much investigating on the fossil bed. I enjoyed the view of the sun shining on the river, the trees, and the last gasp of “good” fall weather before the “bad” fall weather takes over.
And if this is “it” for the good weather this year, it leaves on a spectacular note!

Hi, you've reached the voicemail of fall. I was extremely busy this year and couldn't stay long. Please leave me a message and I will try and get back with you (NEXT YEAR)!

Sounds like a nice day out in nature. BTW- what is that far away bridge called and where is it located? Indiana, Louisville or Ohio? I'm directionally challenged

That’s the K&I railroad bridge. This was taken in Clarksville, Indiana looking toward Louisville.

@FourWalls Cool! You forget how many states Kentucky shares a border with... quite a few!

Weren't "those guys" looking for a short cut from the Atlantic to the Pacific?

Since they were commissioned by the federal government they were probably looking for a shortcut to the island on the middle of the river upstream about two miles.

That’s the railroad bridge across the river. There used to be two railroad bridges…one fell into disrepair, then was turned into a walking path across the river. That’s a fun path to walk!

@FourWalls I am sure it is fun. I love stuff like that. And the old covered bridges.
