Were you outside last night when SpaceX was launched?

Dale and I were walking from the shack through the back yard last night about 10:12 and had stopped to look up at all the stars.
We saw a white-ish object going rather fast across the sky with a slight fan shaped plume behind it.
It was really unusual and while we were watching it, we saw something fly by really fast which was kind of oblong shaped and had flames of fire trailing behind it.
A few minutes or seconds later, Dale heard a loud boom or something like loud thunder from the direction that thing on fire was heading.
We of coursed Googled it and found out SpaceX had launched a rocket with four people on their way to the International Space Station.
It was cool that we got to see it!
But we can't find out exactly what that other thing was. It most likely had something to do with the SpaceX rocket, but what?
Does anyone know for sure what it was? I'm pretty sure it wasn't an alien.

There was a big meteor. If that's what it was, you are so lucky to have seen it!

@1creekgirl We were in Esperance when the space shuttle broke up and reentered the earth's atmosphere. It was very lucky that the area was so sparsely populated.

There was a meteor visible over part of NC last night at the same time as the launch. That's pretty cool that you got to see it!

Thanks, I just read a little bit ago after searching on line that it probably was a meteoroid or something like that. I thought for sure it was connected to the SpaceX ship. It was quite a sight!

There was a lot of clouds last night where I live. I don't think I could have seen it if I was outside at that time.
