Were you outside last night when SpaceX was launched?

Dale and I were walking from the shack through the back yard last night about 10:12 and had stopped to look up at all the stars. We saw a white-ish object going rather fast across the sky with a slight fan shaped plume behind it. It was really unusual and while we were watching it, we saw something fly by really fast which was kind of oblong shaped and had flames of fire trailing behind it. A few minutes or seconds later, Dale heard a loud boom or something like loud thunder from the direction that thing on fire was heading. We of coursed Googled it and found out SpaceX had launched a rocket with four people on their way to the International Space Station. It was cool that we got to see it! But we can't find out exactly what that other thing was. It most likely had something to do with the SpaceX rocket, but what? Does anyone know for sure what it was? I'm pretty sure it wasn't an alien.
