Scammers During the Holidays

It is estimated that there will be more than 27 million scammers calling us here in the US. That's a lot of calls. It is also estimated that there are probably going to be 21 million scam victims. And, that could mean over $10 billion in losses.
A survey done by T-Mobile showed that 9 out of 10 folks aren't comfortable answering their phones when the caller is someone they don't know. You could miss a legitimate call too. I don't answer my phone unless we are having Doordash deliver or we are expecting a call for this or another reason.
How do you handle unknown callers?

We screen all our calls. I very rarely answer a call that I know is a robocall. There are days that the phone rings all day long.

@celticeagle Yes, I got as many as 6 a day. Now that the cutoff day is over with, the calls have decreased.

Just recently depositors in a major bank here in Manila got scammed. Funds in their accounts were transferred to another account with another bank. The bank is currently refunding those who had their accounts compromised.

I don’t. T-Mobile has a feature that shows a phone number as “Scam Likely,” and I’ll ignore it. They’ve yet to be wrong, in that there’s either no message left or a “this is your final warning about your car’s extended warranty” auto message. (I’ve exhausted my “final warnings,” haven’t I? When I will I actually not have any more FINAL warnings?

All callers are unknown, as I don't have caller ID. I've been answering the phone with nonsense phrases lately. My friend Juanita knows this but it tends to put off spammers.

I figure a real call will leave me a voicemail and I can call right back. A few scammers leave messages too. But most dont

Some older folks are easily intimidated and I think they are addressed them to a greater degree.
