At first, I cannot believe that it is commonly called 'black mamba begonia.' The begonia-type plant looks pretty. The name refers to a black mamba snake, which I hated the most. Don't worry, it won't bite and kill us by touching it. I just felt safe being with this plant than the killer scaly black snake. Does it resemble the dangerous black mamba snake?

I guess they've just gone with the black connection. Begonias can be hard to grow. It's easy to over-water them.

I agree that is associated with the black shade. I am not sure if they can live with countries that have four seasons. I think this plant can grow in Australia.

@JudyEv In my opinion, it is not ideal to let it stay under the sun for a long time.

@Shavkat I think Mum had hers on a window-sill that got plenty of light but wasn't outside in the hot sun.

This begonia plant is very beautiful. I really like the shape of the leaves. I rarely see flowers with this type.

It certainly is a fear inspiring name! I wonder why it got that name? Does it sting? Is it poisonous? When it flowers, how do the flowers look?

I am so fascinated by seeing this plant's foliage. It is called 'begonia bowerae' or 'eyelash begonia. It does make sense why it looks like an eyelash. The...

Perhaps it shows the fierceness with the shade of the plant. I am also puzzled about where did the name originate. The blooms like this. Image Credit: i.pinimg.com

@Shavkat All begonias are ugly and the plants stink. No, I don't have one. I wouldn't waste my money on one of those.

It's cute. The name doesn't do it justice.

@Shavkat but ironically, it’s not really black, but then, neither is the black mamba- it’s more silvery

I agree. Perhaps botanists created its name because of the color.

I also find it cool, too. My younger brother loves the shade. It shows his persona as a rocker.

I cannot blame you. I was thinking if it will be an outdoor plant, a garden snake might see it up close.

I agree. It seems not appropriate for this type of begonia. Among all the wild creatures, snakes and tarantulas or any other types of spiders what I hated the most.
