Who do you suppose came up with that plan?

All of our schools--one elementary, one middle school, one high school were scheduled to attend a half day and be dismissed at 12 o'clock sharp. Someone decided the entire Middle School (6th, 7th, and 8th) would go to a movie for a holiday celebration. The nearest movie is more than a half hour's drive away. It required three buses, and drivers, to transport them. Movie started at 10. Now we do not have spare buses, other than maybe 1, and we do not h ave spare drivers. We needed those drivers back to take home rural students, plus my student in a wheel chair. Of course they did not make it back to our town in time. So at 12 the city kids, who were walking or being picked up were allowed to leave. Bus kids had to wait about a half hour later. My student's daycare was beginning to panic wondering if she had missed us bringing him home. Some of us would really like to know who planned this. It really did not work well at all.Not with an early dismissal.

That's easy... one of the kindergarten students planned it. I think the execution went off as planned.

Perfect. Kndergarteners, although they like Christmas, do not want a two week long break.

@GardenGerty True. They are too excited about going to school at that age.

Someone surely did. I think it happens every year and they optimistically try it again the next year. If school let out at 1 it would have been okay.

The Principal had to sign off on the use of busses for a "field trip" on early release day. Transportation was also aware of the conflict as they do the scheduling of busses. Both knew well in advance of the conflict and CHOSE to approve it. They knew other students would be affected but didn't care. Your building Principal made the call. Complaints from parents should be directed to that office.

Nope, my principal is at the elementary, they did not use the busses, but were the ones that got held an extra half hour, thereby worrying parents. I would say they did this because middle school teachers did not want to plan school for half a day. I blame the middle school principal, who is retiring.

Well we know it wasn't you. You're smart and would know that that wouldn't work out. Hope the kids weren't too mad having to stay later

No, not mad. Some were confused, but they had been partying all day, so it was just another half hour of party time. Yes, when I heard the plan I knew it was not going to work. I have been a bus driver, just not here. I have also been part of some poorly thought out plans.

Oh my, so unorganized. I don't think the kids had fun.

I am pretty sure they did have fun, even the ones that stayed later. The kids at my school basically celebrated all day. Problem would have been solved if they had set the early dismissal for one o'clock, instead.

Oh my, sounds like the middle school principal might be in trouble.

I would be willing to bet there are very few repercussions. I think they forgot while things were closed for covid how carefully things need to be coordinated.

That sounds like a bad plan that did not work out.

Exactly. If dismissal could have been stated as 1:00 pm, then it would have worked well.

They need someone to handle logistics, I think. Most of the time they do really well, but occasionally there is a mix up.

It got a little confusing at the end of the day, deciding who had to stay and who could go and what to do with the kids who had partied all day.
