What could be more difficult than re-learning what you have learned decades ago?
Yes. I'm learning elementary math again because I have to tutor my grandkid, about fractions, and LCDs, and mixed fractions, etc.
Well, I finally did after a few hours. It's really easy once you get the hang of it. But I still find college algebra and trginometry easier.
It's fun to go back to primary subjects but i realized, lots of these lessons should have focused more on subjects that children could actually use as they grow up.
Such as, how to cope with bullying, how to interact with people, how to stay happy, how to show love and concern, etc.
And not about defining terms, such as algorithms, musical scales, mixed fractions,. unless they are within the major course of the child,.
You could agree or not. This is only my personal opinion.
What's yours?

Yes, I agree with you. I'd like my kids to learn for their life, instead of for passing the exams. When I was in school, I didn't know how those subjects relate in my life, but when I am teaching my kids now only I found that some of the subjects/topics we learn are actually helping us practically in life. Now I am trying to learn to teach my kids in a more practical way, rather than just defining and memorizing the terms.
I wonder if schools expect the soft skills to be learned at home.

Previously, as a teacher, I do specify that what they learn and retain is more important than their grades. They may get a 90 but didn't learn anything, and they may get a grade of 80 butn retained all that they have learned, then that would be more significant.
