A Different Holiday Supper

After all the Christmas fare I decided on a change for supper this evening. Whilst not everything is open the ‘chippie’ was and so it was time for fish n’ chips, with mushy peas.
The photo shows my meal before the vinegar is poured on. I don’t add any salt.
Since I didn’t make it myself I suppose it should feel a tadge guilty, but not in the least, do I!
After that dodgy grammar, I hope you all had an excellent tea or supper this evening.

After the heavy foods at Christmas, I always want a pot of dried beans and fried potatoes, but today I cooked veggie soup with browned venison burger, pork sausage, and leftover smoked ham. It was the best I've ever cooked!
Your fish and chips look yummy, but why are the peas mushy?

@Ronrybs I'm sorry, but I can't imagine mushy peas with mint and lemon. But then, I don't care for green peas anyway.
What kind of dried beans do you use in your soup?

@1creekgirl Just about any white kind, like butter ( I think they are Lima in the USA), black eyed and cannellini

Looks good. Vinegar is a fun idea. I like putting lemon on fish...
mushed peas... is that something often found?

@FayeHazel Most of them have mint added and sometimes lemon

@Ronrybs How interesting. I've never /seen them served as such. Is it flavored any particular way, or just like mashed peas?

So mushy peas are English peas mushed ?

that looks and sounds perfect to me. We have too much salt added here I think.

@Ronrybs yes that's why I think the vinegar was the better choice that you chose

Mushy peas seem to be a real thing for the English - and it seems to be catching on here too. That looks just the shot after an indulgent Christmas. Not saying you necessarily indulged a great deal but most of us do, at least a little.

That is the exact meal they serve on Princess cruise ships for their "pub lunch." I didn't think I would like mushy peas, but they are good. Glad you enjoyed your supper.

A traditional favourite! I used to hate mushy peas as a child. I liked the flavour but hated the texture. My poor Mum used to have to try to cook marrowfat peas so they were just tender but not mushy - very difficult as they normally go straight from 'bullets' to 'mush'!
