Ringing in the New Year at an Italian restaurant

For New Years we decided to go to an Italian restaurant. We've never done that before. It was a restaurant that we've been to many times. It is located by the water, so has an amazing view. We were actually invited there by hubby's cousin. The cost was $250 a person and we did not have to pay tax or tip. We were there from 8:30 pm to 1:30 am. Hubby didn't want to drive, and I didn't want to take car service or Uber, so we took the train there. It was a 21-minute ride each way and it cost us nothing, which was great. Plus, the restaurant was right by the train station, so we didn't even have to walk anywhere. You get down the stairs from the platform and the restaurant is right there. The festivities were not in the restaurant itself but in a huge structure they sat up. It was beautifully decorated and you could see through to the outdoors where the water was. There was a bar area with a few large TVs, and in the center of the structure was room for dancing. A DJ played music most of the night, though there was a singer as well. We had a four-course menu to choose from that consisted of one appetizer, a pasta dish, a main course, and dessert, though dessert was just given to us; we didn't get to choose what we wanted. I thought they were supposed to offer us coffee beverages but they never did, which I was bummed about. I really wanted a cappuccino. Perhaps we had to go to the bar for that. Hubby and I both ordered different dishes so we can share them all, with the exception of the pasta dish. For the pasta we both ordered the truffle gnocchi because the other pasta option had pork in it, which we don't eat. I ordered the burrata appetizer and Chilean sea bass while hubby ordered the beef carpaccio appetizer and rack of lamb. The dishes were pretty good but because the gnocchi was quite filling we left most of our main courses and ended up taking them home. There was an open bar the entire evening. I just had a glass of Pinot Noir wine, which I never even finished. Hubby had a glass of wine and then some drinks. I can't say I had the best time ever but it was still a good time and better than being home for a change.

That sounds like a great night to me. Compared to what we did which was sitting at home and at midnight, we stopped reading and watched the ball drop in Times Square. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Your description of the food made me hungry!

@Kouponkaren it sure was. I’d do it again, though maybe in a different restaurant.

@lovebuglena Yes, and especially with all of the craziness surrounding the pandemic, I am sure it was nice to get out of the house and do something social for a change.

The whole evening sounds really nice. Thanks for the update. It was so convenient with the train, wasn't it? Did you get any of the white crap from the storm? If you did, I know you're happy!

Nope. No white stuff. I was really hoping for a white birthday and white New Years. Didn’t happen.

It was. Especially when you see the lights everywhere and they are reflected on the water too.

Sounds like you had a nice time anyway, I used to enjoy going out on New Year's Eve when I lived in NYC but that was in my younger days and then enjoyed having fun just staying at home,

Definitely a nice way to ring in the new year. Paying $250/person seems like a lot though. Good thing we didn't have to pay tax and tip or it would have been much more than $500 for two people.

@lovebuglena I’d just have pigged out on the truffle gnocchi and left no room for anything else.

If I remember correctly it was gnocchi in a truffle sauce. Not sure if there were actual truffles in the gnocchi itself. I wanted to leave room for the main course so didn't finish the gnocchi. Should've asked them to put the leftovers in a to-go container. Didn't think they'd do that.

It was. A bit better than staying at home. Though I missed out on what was happening in Times Square.
